We had a private fully customized tour through Midgard for just our family, over the course of 6 full days.

I can’t say enough about how amazing this company is. Communication prior to the trip was excellent, with a perfect itinerary based on our wishes, designed with almost no alterations. Modifications that were desired were fully accommodated and easily done.

This trip was quite adventurous, with lots of hiking, and stops along the routes for each day to include sights that the tourists do not normally see.

All of the guides are local and absolutely excellent. We had four of them, and each was very funny, very friendly, and very knowledgeable about Icelandic history, geology, and out of the way things to see. They, in a word, were hands down amazing.

We are very vested travelers that only do private tours internationally, so believe me when I say that if you are looking for a private tour in Iceland, this is your company. Worth every penny, and not one flaw.

The only tiny thing I would suggest to Midgard would be to please have water on hand in all vehicles. Running out of water on all day excursions was a little bit of an issue.

Midgard Adventures is one of the best companies for private touring in any country, anywhere!

We completed the Fimmvörðuháls Hike with Midgard in August 2024 (after eyeing this tour for over a year), and it did not disappoint! Overall it was an extremely challenging yet rewarding hike, full of unbelievable beauty and truly showcasing the best of Iceland (mountains, glaciers, volcanoes, and waterfalls). The entire team at Midgard showed us unparalleled service from beginning to end (we also stayed at Midgard Base Camp), and helped create lifetime memories while keeping us safe.

Addi was our guide for the day (supported by his wife Hildur who handled transportation to/from the hike), and they took care of every detail, ensured we were prepared, provided interesting information and history about the area and Iceland in general, and rewarded us with delicious burgers and beers post-hike. The day of our hike the winds were extremely strong, so they changed the route to hike it in reverse (Þórsmörk to Skógar), so we were not battling it head on the entire day. This is just one example of exactly why you should choose to go with the experts at Midgard- they know the area as they’re locals with many years of experience.

In addition, they truly live out their core values and make you feel like a part of the family. I can’t recommend or say enough positive things about this experience and Midgard in general, and I will certainly be back in the future to join another adventure!

We’ve made this hike few weeks ago and it was one of the greatest experience we’ve ever had. The landscapes, the trip and the scenarios were breathtaking. Special mention to our guide Stephan, very careful and skilled, he created a special atmosphere and told us many interesting informations during the hike. At the end they also prepared us an unattended surprise (we don’t want to reveal 😉).
Also, a technical note: we booked for 4 people but one of us couldn’t come and they refund us for his ticket without any problem.

P.s. we wait for Stephan to come in Italy (Umbria especially) to taste our prosciutto and all the others specialities!

Our group of 8 adults had a fantastic unforgettable experience with Midgard on the 7-day Epic Adventure. Midgard is a local and knowledgeable adventure tour operator based in Hvollsvollur run by a group of family and friends with a deep passion for the outdoors and for sharing Icelandic culture. We chose Midgard over the larger tour operators since we wanted a more personalized and less generic experience. We appreciated the excellent communication and support throughout the process, from our initial trip inquiry to our drop off in Reykjavik at the end of the trip. Highlights of our trip below:

• Warm, knowledgeable guides and staff: Everyone who we interacted with at Midgard (the basecamp staff, our guides Hildur and Addi, and our campsite manager Kristof) were all incredibly welcoming, energetic, and engaging. They went above and beyond in making sure that we were comfortable and had a great experience.
• Personalized experience: We appreciated that this was an intimate, personalized experience vs. a set tour with a larger group. We modified our itinerary due to heavy rain/flooding at one of the initially planned campsites and ended up with a better camping experience in a small, pristine campground away from the crowds. Addi and Hildur’s extensive knowledge and local ties (including volunteering with the Icelandic search and rescue team and family members who are involved with the Icelandic park system) were apparent throughout our trip.
• Seeing the less trafficked and hidden gems of the Icelandic highlands: The trails were absolutely stunning with varied terrain (moss-covered mountains, glacial streams, geothermal rivers/pools, ash deserts). We did not come across any other hikers on the trails except for sections on the Laugavegur trial. The less trafficked hikes were just as stunning (if not more so) and allowed us to be immersed in the raw wild landscape of the highlands.
• Basecamp: We stayed in the basecamp the first and last days of the trip. The basecamp was clean, light-filled, and had great common spaces (including a terrific restaurant and bar area) for relaxing. The bedrooms were comfortable.
• Smooth logistics and planning: We were only responsible for bringing the clothing that we needed for the trek and for flying into Reykjavik, and Midgard took care of the rest, including the transfers. We couldn’t have had a smoother, worry-free experience.

Our group had such a terrific experience with Midgard, that some of us are already planning another trip! Many thanks again to the Midgard family/crew for the unforgettable memories!

My and my wife went for a weekend tour to Grænihryggur with Midgard Adventures. It included bus trip to and from Midgard Base Camp and accommodation before and after the trip, breakfast included. It also included guidance throughout the hike and burgers and drinks in Landmannalaugar after the hike. The landscape up there is quite phenomenal, as can be expected, and can be seen in pictures from the area. The biggest surprise was the people at Midgard, a family run company with the perfect blend of professionalism and laid-back attitude. I can not recommend them highly enough!

We had a great time on a private tour of Thorsmork. It was a great option for our family of 7 to be able to see so much within a day. Our guide Carlos was very informative, we really appreciated his expertise in picking spots to visit and short hikes to do. He gave us some great recommendations for the rest of our trip. It was my favorite thing we did in our busy week in Iceland. Carlos even took the time to show my boyfriend, who is a car fan, around the vehicle to see all the modifications made so that it can tackle river crossings and rough terrain with ease. Afterwards, we had a delicious dinner at the Midgard Basecamp.

We planned an adventure trip and were not disappointed. Midgard set up our 10 day itinerary. This family run local company really knows the area. Kristin went out of her way to give us the best experience even with a few changes during the trip. Raggi our first guide was the best. He worked hard to make sure we saw everything and gave a personal touch with his local stories. Plus, he was a lot of fun! Mummy and Piorla were equally knowledgeable and personable. We had the pleasure of staying several days at the rustic Midgard Basecamp. Great food excellent staff…thanks Gina for really caring and taking a personal interest in our stay. It is now our home away from home. I would not hesitate to recommend this company when coming to Iceland for a true adventure from hiking a glacier, boating in glacier bay, ice tunnels or hiking in many areas and seeing the northern lights. We had a fantastic trip!

Accommodating
The first word that came to my mind for this review on Midgard Adventure was accommodating. We did the 7 Day Epic Adventure Tour. From the first moment I met their friendly staff I feIt welcome and comfortable. I left feeling like I was a part of the Midgard family. They ALWAYS went the extra mile to grant our requests, and then, went beyond those asked for favors, to make the event even more memorable. The extra effort seemed effortless. It was duly noted and appreciated. Their laid back style was refreshing and comforting. They live and breathe by the Icelandic motto of Þetta Reddast (pronounced thet-ta re-dust) which means it's all going to work out in the end. Or don't worry, it's going to be okay!
The guides are passionate about hiking and the utterly stunning and diverse landscape they get to live and work in every day. They are eager to share that beauty with their guests. It was clearly evident to us that they absolutely LOVE the outdoors.
The base camp and hot tub area are
clean and well cared for in a setting that includes Icelandic horses grazing in the vast fields directly behind the “upscale hostel” facility. The food and bar drinks served at the facility, and during our camping trek, were fresh and satisfying.
The personable wait and bar staff at Midgard was eager to help and quick to make you laugh.
They use high quality camping tents and sleeping pads, in excellent condition. We enjoyed the large, brand new, “community tent” where we gathered to eat and socialize while on the trail.
We had a fantastic time in Iceland and Midgard played a huge part in that. I highly recommend this company. If you use them, you too can experience Þetta Reddast because “It’s going to be fine.”

A great experience with Midgard base camp over the Fimmvörðuháls, from Skógar to Þórsmörk. The group was a mixture of friends and couples, experienced and unexperienced hikers. The guides were excellent, kept us going with a nice pace, not too fast and not too slow. When we arrived, burgers and beers waited for us. The beer yoga was a nice bonus after a long walk. Can recommend them 100%.

This was our first time in Iceland and we had a wonderful time. When we were planning the trip, Björg was very honest about what can be done. The days were busy, but we also had time to rest. The food was outstanding( try the beet soup), rooms were clean and I loved waking up and seeing “ my horses” outside, grazing or playing. Sæbjörg was a delight to be with and she went out of her way to take us places off the beaten path and adjust according to weather. Snorri was great and a wealth of knowledge. Looking back at the pictures we can’t believe how many beautiful places and waterfalls we were able to see. Everyone was happy at Midgard and it seemed more of a big family rather than an accommodation. Gina always had a smile on her face and her energy is contagious! She cares so much about making sure that people were happy! We would go back in a heartbeat! Thank you all for the wonderful memories!
