Museum documenting the harsh realities of living in Iceland are both informative and eye opening. You can also visit the primitive homes they lived in. Good place to stop for a quick lunch of soup and sandwich.

We visited here towards the end of our six day visit. How I wish it had been day one! I would have appreciated everything about Iceland so much more.As a teacher, I learned so much about the history, geography, culture and innovations which put my vacation into perspective. It is easy to spend time here in this carefully planned, well set out complex. My husband throughly enjoyed it from an architectural/ engineering perspective. Excellent high quality books/ gifts/ souvenirs. If you want to maximise your understanding and appreciation of this amazing country and its people, this is a must.

Superb overview of Iceland's past in terms of effects by both humans and natural forces on the environment. Thoughtfully organized and insightful. I will look at Iceland in a new way following my tour of the museum.

The visitor centre at the Soil Conservation Service in Sagnagardur, provides an excellent and easy to understand exhibition about the land of Iceland - its formation, history and restoration. The visitor centre is also only a few kilometres from the Old Farmhouse Laufás so you truly get a feeling for the country in two short visits.
