It is an understatement to say that Agust went above and beyond from the moment he picked us up at the airport to the moment he dropped us off in Reykjavik 4 days later. My 15-year-old son and I were so lucky that a good friend had recommended Agust and his Alfasteinn Guesthouse. He was an incredible host - up before us to prepare breakfast each day and still taking care of everything as we turned in each night. He drove us ALL OVER, sharing many special places of Iceland at the perfect times each day to avoid crowds, get the best views and photos, and hear his many stories as a lifelong Icelander who loves sharing his country with its visitors. I believe he may have hiked every peak in the country! We not only experienced many of the places well-known to tourists, but so many hidden treasures as well. We were in Iceland for almost 2 weeks, and Agust's recommendations helped us enjoy our entire visit, even after we were off on our own again. I cannot recommend Agust highly enough as a guide and host who loves what he does - he is truly amazing and a terrific person as well.

My partner and I, with her 11 year-old daughter were made to feel incredibly welcome in Agust's amazing house. Agust is the most incredibly gracious, generous and welcoming host. He was up before us in the mornings and went to bed hours after us every day to ensure that everything for our trip was just perfect.
Whilst in Iceland he drove us around to some amazing little places that only he knows, having sat with us at breakfast each day to plan an itinerary perfect for our capabilities and desires. We picked what we wanted to see of the country and he made it all happen (except the Northern Lights, sadly, he doesn't have the switch to turn these on...)
The house is warm and comfortable, the home-cooked food is amazing and the views and area are just perfectly relaxing.
I cannot recommend staying with Agust enough. This is the way to do Iceland; have him pick you up from the airport, show you his own personal Iceland and you will have the most perfect time.
It truly was an unforgettable holiday of a lifetime.
Thanks Agust!

We were picked-up at our hotel by Agust, who proved to be a great guide. He took us for a beautiful tour in the unspoiled nature of Landmannalaugar. The tour was planned to last 6-7 hours, but in fact we were around for more than nine hours, because Agust showed us some hidden places and took us all the way up to Hekla vulcano. Really a great day, despite the weather that did not help at times. A highly recommended tour, by all means. Thank you for letting us share the beauty of your back-country

Our group had the best time with Agust. We visited in the first week of July 2017. We arrived and were greeted with open arms and it felt like we were visiting family. Everything about the place was awesome - the location, the food, the cleanliness, Agust and his family, his tours - I'm sure I'm missing some other details of awesomeness. I highly recommend staying here and taking one or more of his tours as he is very informative which adds to the charm of being in this majestic land. I can't recommend staying here enough and I hope to be back for another tour and fantastic company!

We were lucking in finding a place at Alfasteinn, while most hotels and B&B were already sold out.
Its location not far from the main road is very convenient for visiting the major attractions in the South and West of Iceland.
There are a few very decent restaurant within a short driving distance, and a convenience store closeby.
The rooms are fairly basic but comfortable, and the living areas are very cosy.
Agust is a fine host and great company to be around. Though he is much occupied with the tours he organizes, we were taken good care of at all times.

My boyfriend and I stayed with August for 3 days and nights in his lovely cabin and it was filled with lots of laughs, beautiful excursions and delicious home cooked meals. August has a great sense of humor, is so kind, patient and a wonderful host who makes you feel like his cabin is your home while you are there. He makes the best use of your time depending on the weather forecast for the day and packs them full of adventure. He will design the day based on what you want to do, he truly just wants you to have a good time. We saw breathtaking waterfalls, glaciers, geysers, canyons, hot springs, and went off-roading to get to some spectacular hikes (one on a glacier was truly memorable!)
He is also an amazing photographer and captured great shots of us on our adventures. I would highly recommend seeing Iceland through August, you will not be disappointed, it is a land of many wonderful surprises.

The cabin is very picturesque. 8 of us had booked in to stay, we eventually found the cabin after difficulty getting there. Through our own mistakes. Agust was kind enough to meet us at a petrol station nearby and show us the way. It was very late and he was so accommodating considering the time! In regards to the cabin - it is isolated, beautiful and well equipped. It is everything you imagine and more when you think of an isolated cabin in the wilderness. In regards to the host, Agust was brilliant. Friendly, easy to get along with, hugely helpful and also a great guide to Iceland. Agust cooked us a brilliant breakfast every morning, a genuinely fantastic breakfast, better than any I have had in a hotel! Agust helped us decide how to spend our time in Iceland, gave great advice on how to stay safe and pointed out the best locations on the map. We hired a car and drove everywhere ourselves but I believe Agust also does tours if booked. I will definitely be returning to Iceland and if I go again will definitely be staying here again. Have recommended it to everyone, I also recommend it to you. If you are looking to stay in Iceland, stay here! You will not regret it. It is not a 5* hotel, but you would not be looking for a 5* hotel if you were considering a cabin in the first place. I felt so at home in the cabin and now I have returned home am longing to go back! GO - YOU MUST VISIT AND YOU WILL LOVE EVERY MINUTE!

We would like to thank August and Maria for their warm hospitality and making our stay at the Alfasteinn Guesthouse so special! We were lucky to be there for the midsummer night in 2014 and had a chance to celebrate this special time of the year in Þórsmörk with August as the PERFECT guide. The trip there in itself was an exciting challenge (23 rivercrossings!) and on the road we learnt so many interesting things about the area and its geography from our guide. At Þórsmörk we had a delicious grilled-food dinner prepared by our hosts and a great time singing and dancing to Icelandic songs with all people gathered there around the huge bonfire. Many thanks, August, for this epic experience!!! And, last but not least, your grass-roof house in itself is a landmark! :-D

My mother and I had the pleasure to spend two nights at the Alfasteinn Guest House. It could not have been more perfect. We rented one of the cabins which was tastefully decorated and more than enough room for two people.
The breakfasts had a variety of bread, rolls, cheeses, meats and several other items. The selections of jelly and jams were wonderful. It was a very nice opportunity to get to know Agust and enjoyed meeting others staying there as well. Esther was also very kind and took fabulous care of us.
We spent a day with Agust and another group that was staying at their guesthouse. The day included horseback riding and a glacier walk. Although I was apprehensive about a glacier walk, Agust explained everything so well and was such a fabulous guide that I was quickly at ease and loving it! His English AND German are impeccable.
Agust is personable, funny and kind. He was a fabulous guide and host.
Many thanks!

My group stayed with Agust in July, and had the most wonderful time! His beautiful home was so welcoming and picturesque. Home-cooked meals, clean and comfortable accommodations, and a gracious and personable host made this a memorable stop on our vacation. We also went on Agust's tours, and he was an excellent guide! Very knowledgeable and passionate about the beauty of Iceland, and an amazing photographer! I would definitely stay at Agust's again, and highly recommend Alfasteinn Guesthouse as well as Agust's tours!
