About
The Secret Lagoon natural pool is located in the village of Fludir in the Golden Circle area. The historical surroundings have been kept natural and simple for a unique and authentic experience. The pool is surrounded by several hot springs, including a little geyser, providing the pool with fresh warm water, maintaining a temperature of 38-40 °C throughout the year. In the winter the northern lights can often be seen in the area and what better way to experience the light show than relaxing in the warm water surrounded by the steam from the earth? The Lagoon offers brand new facilities next the hot spring with showers, bar and eating area. Food is not served daily but can be arranged for groups when arranged in advance. Feel free to contact the staff for any inquiries or for a group deal.

What a treat ! Had an amazing experience here in the rain, value for money. The facilities were clean and maintained well. We just turned up without a prior booking and they could accommodate us. Paid extra for towels. Simple and straight forward. The lagoon it's self was hot and even though busy enough room for everyone. The little walk around the decking was invigorating and the little geisers really added to the experience. They also had plenty of floats to use free of charge.
We didn't use the bar/cafe as we were too busy enjoying the lagoon it's self. 100% recommend will definitely go back !

Visited as part of a tour so entry was included. Wonderful stop, clearly somewhere the locals also visit which made it more special. Only a small rectangular pool with a small path around the outside to see the natural springs popping up around the pool.
Lockers included so no extra cost there, suits and towels can be hired. Changing rooms are traditional to the area, no private changing areas and you must shower naked before getting in the water but hey if everyone else is doing it?

The Secret Lagoon is an outdoor public swimming pool which is naturally thermally heated. There are separate male and female changing rooms but there are no private cubicles. There are lockers to store your clothes and valuables. There are plenty of noodles available to use will in the pool. The water is pretty warm so the pool is more for relaxing in than swimming. I would advise that you bring your own towel. You can also walk around the site and see little geysers, mud pools, etc. There is a small selection of snacks and drinks available. There is a spacious car park on site.

A less pretentious thermal spa, basic, clean, very affordable and welcoming. We arrived with no pre booking or towels and were sorted within a few minutes. The pool was relaxing and not crowded very peaceful and calm. There's a small relaxing coffee shop where we had a drink after and just soaked up the cool atmosphere. Be aware of the naked shower... but when in Rome you just have to go with the flow.
Free hair dryers an added bonus and plastic bags for the wet swimming costumes.

This place is an absolute gem. Facilities are excellent. Showers and lockers are extremely clean and safe. Very well organised as the reception shows you a short video on arrival explaining the dos and donts. Considering it is a natural spa. this place is very well maintained and civil. We visited around the last week of April at 11AM and stayed for a couple of hours. It was not crowded. Towels can be hired for GBP6. Best to carry your own. There are hot springs all around the natural swimming pool, which must be avoided as it is over 100 C. Do not miss this experience.

Absolutely loved every minute of our visit. We were very impressed by the Secret Lagoon. So calming! We felt it was probably less busy and more intimate than the blue lagoon which suited us more. Would definitely recommend as it was worth the money.

Great spot, felt very authentic and local. A very different vibe than the Blue Lagoon. I really enjoyed it. Would recommend.

I liked the secret lagoon. Don’t get the point of the naked shower and thought it could be more private but it was fine. The pool is very simple and the hot water felt nice. There were hairdryers to use which I didn’t expect and definitely a plus. It wasn’t too crowded and it had a relaxing environment.

Spent a great couple of hours here. Booked tickets in advance. As Brits, the only stumbling block was naked showers on the way in and out - but we coped! The whole place seems very clean, water was wonderful, not over-crowded. Challenged ourselves to take a walk around the boardwalk in just our costumes - pretty cold but exhilarating. Cafe on site did good hot dogs and a nice cup of coffee. We drove pas the Blue Lagoon later in the week and it looked very crowded in comparison and a trek to drive to. Would definitely recommend the Secret Lagoon.

A hidden gem - and Iceland’s oldest bathing pool. On our day, it was quite cold and the icy mist blending with the steam was so authentic!

I will be traveling with a group that has a scheduled stop here. I don’t plan on participating. Is there anywhere to walk around to occupy my time or maybe somewhere to sit? Thanks!

You can sit outside the cafe on some picnic benches and there is a wooden walkway around the surrounding smaller pools around the lagoon itself

I have long hair and do not plan on submerging my head so would I still need to wash my hair prior to going into the lagoon? (secret or blue)

We didn’t wash our hair (nobody checks anyway) but, if you have long hair, it would be a good idea to tie it up as most do. Certainly we wouldn’t recommend submerging your head in that water!
Can you wear your towel to and from the shower room and are there hooks in the shower room to hang it?

IN the male changing rooms, the showers are only a few metres from where you get undressed / dressed.
There is a towel rack about half way between the two. You leave your towel and swimwear on the rack, then shower, then put your swimwear on.
Leave your towel in the rack, don't take it outside because it will get wet if (when) it rains / snows..
After you finish in the lagoon (which is fantastic) you take your swimwear back off, shower again, get fully dried and then go get dressed.
There is a swimwear spinner at the edge of the drying area to dry your swimwear.
The idea is you only walk on the changing area floor when you are fully dry which keeps the floor clean and dry.

Does the hot water dry your hair out, do you need to protect your hair like at the blue lagoon?
hellomoto88
Ipswich, MA61 contributions
YES YES YES. When you shower before going into the lagoon, put conditioner on and leave it in. Put your hair up to minimize the chance of it getiing into the lagoon water. I did not see any shower caps at the Secret Lagoon, but I saw a couple in the Blue Lagoon. Most people just keep their head above water...

Is the floor of the lagoon mud? Is it advisable to wear some footwear to go in the secret lagoon?
Richard L

No, the floor isn't mud. It is probably smooth stone chippings. Very comfortable underfoot, and I didn't encounter any sharp or hard edges. Footwear definitely not needed!

L'eau était très chaude quand on y est allés en septembre. Il y a des endroits où elle était tellement chaude qu'on ne pouvait pas y rester longtemps.

Can I get here without a car? Also are we allowed to bring small camera equipment in such as a small tripod for pictures?

You will definitely need a car to get there. Everyone had camera phones, both in the Secret Lagoon and outside along the edge of the pool. Not sure about tripods, though.
