This was the worst horse riding tour I've ever had. Although this may have been our unfortunate luck... basically the tour was walking on horseback up a rainy hill, and down the same rainy hill back to the farm. Not that the bad weather was anyone's fault, but we were given a guide who had only just started one week on the job and was pretty useless as a guide; she didn't know anything about Icelandic ponies, or even speak to us at all. We tried asking her questions and got nothing out of her. She was cold and unhelpful. Once we knew we were only going up and down one hill, I thought at least we could try some different gaits on the horses. I told the guide at the beginning I had experience riding horses but had put us down as beginners because my boyfriend was a beginner. But when I asked if we could do a simple trot, we were told no, we had to walk, because we had registered as beginners. there was no flexibility at all for what was a miserable ride. When I asked if we could at least stop to get closer and look at the ponies nearby, we were again told no, we couldn't leave the path. The ponies were about 2 metres away. All in all, the only highlight was the horses themselves, which were beautiful and we enjoyed hanging out with them afterwards. Sad to say that the best part of the tour was when it was over!
If I could give some actual advice for the company: don't use a tour guide yet until you have actually seen how they do with tourists, and if it's a miserable rainy day and you're walking up and down a hill, maybe encourage them to make it enjoyable for the guests with different gaits and at a MINIMUM, have some knowledge on the horses to share.
For tourists - there are so many horse riding companies around Iceland, do your research and don't just go to the first one you find!

My granddaughter and I absolutely love Riding Tours South Iceland! A very friendly, calm barn with great horses and facilities. She is 10; I am 70. We had a wonderful time, first on a two hour ride, then a couple of days later on a half day trek. The scenery from horseback is like a dream! The horses and people couldn't have been sweeter. Having met us on our shorter ride, they were able to match us with the perfect horses and ride for our ability when we went on our long ride. Now that we are back home, we talk about "our barn" in Iceland every day. We hope to return! Highest recommendation! A couple of other notes: this barn is slightly off the beaten track, so not crowded, but quite near to Golden Circle attractions like Geysir, good hiking, especially close to Secret Lagoon for a swim after riding. Good value for money, not expensive comparatively to more well-known riding experiences.

Amazing people and great horses, would highly recommend!!! A not-to-be-missed experience for sure if you like animals and horse riding!

The scenery is like that of a fairytale, and seeing it while riding one of the wonderful horses is an unforgettable experience! The owners are also incredibly nice and they answered all of our group's questions about these beautiful creatures.

This wonderful place is about an hour's drive from Reykjavik. The owners and the staff are extremely nice and friendly. Everyone is welcome, regardless of riding ability. We had an amazingly good riding experience. The landscape was beautiful and it was fantastic to explore it on horseback. Of the more than 100 Icelandic horses, there are all colours, foals, small ones, big ones, but what they all have in common is that they are all very friendly without exception. We had an unforgettable experience, this was our favourite of our visit to Iceland. We hope to return again some day. Thank you again! We are very grateful for everything.

We are currently on a multi-generational family trip to Iceland (ages ranging from 9 years - 75 years) and doing a horseback tour with Riding Tours South Iceland was a true highlight of our trip! The guides were patient, encouraging and reassuring. Taking in beautiful Icelandic views on horseback is not to be missed!

My wife and I had a wonderful tour. The two young ladies from Germany who were our guides did a fantastic job. The tour happened near the end of our 2 week trip around the ring road and really made our trip special. We absolutely loved Iceland and can’t wait to go back one day.

We had an amazing experience. Everyone working at your stable was super friendly and the horses were both well ridden, kind and felt happy.

If we travel to iceland again we would very much like to come back for a second visit.

My daughter (7 years, no riding experience) took a 1 hour tour and it was really great: the riding teacher explained her everything in detail, the horse was very patient and the landscape is also very nice.
Everything was perfect and my daughter declared this hour to the best time during our complete trip in Island.

I took a 2 hour horse tour with RTSI and they were amazing. It was just me and two guides and we went around the farm area, along a river, and up a little hill. I had only ridden a horse once before and they were really kind and patient with me and I even learned to Tolt!
