This is the best horse riding I have ever had on a borrowed horse. If you ride, but have never ridden an Icelandic you must try it, and no-where I’ve been has matched Riding Tours South Iceland.

The horses are in beautiful condition, and my mount was very light, willing and easy to ride. The Icelandic saddle was comfortable and very secure. I was loaned a warm waterproof overall. The scenery was spectacular. But the icing on the cake was the Tolt, the gait that is unique to the Icelandic horse that is a very fast and comfortable walk that covers the ground effortlessly.

My next horse will definitely be an Icelandic!

I only did a 1 hour tour, but still saw some wonderful scenery. I strongly recommend you book by phone and be honest with your experience so they can match you to a suitable horse. Whenever possible they keep groups separate. I was lucky enough to have 1 to 1.

Very enjoyable riding with young children. This is the first time my six year old was able to go through with it after being too scared on previous attempts. The guides were very reassuring and one led his horse from hers.

My granddaughter and I absolutely love Riding Tours South Iceland! A very friendly, calm barn with great horses and facilities. She is 10; I am 70. We had a wonderful time, first on a two hour ride, then a couple of days later on a half day trek. The scenery from horseback is like a dream! The horses and people couldn't have been sweeter. Having met us on our shorter ride, they were able to match us with the perfect horses and ride for our ability when we went on our long ride. Now that we are back home, we talk about "our barn" in Iceland every day. We hope to return! Highest recommendation! A couple of other notes: this barn is slightly off the beaten track, so not crowded, but quite near to Golden Circle attractions like Geysir, good hiking, especially close to Secret Lagoon for a swim after riding. Good value for money, not expensive comparatively to more well-known riding experiences.

This was the worst horse riding tour I've ever had. Although this may have been our unfortunate luck... basically the tour was walking on horseback up a rainy hill, and down the same rainy hill back to the farm. Not that the bad weather was anyone's fault, but we were given a guide who had only just started one week on the job and was pretty useless as a guide; she didn't know anything about Icelandic ponies, or even speak to us at all. We tried asking her questions and got nothing out of her. She was cold and unhelpful. Once we knew we were only going up and down one hill, I thought at least we could try some different gaits on the horses. I told the guide at the beginning I had experience riding horses but had put us down as beginners because my boyfriend was a beginner. But when I asked if we could do a simple trot, we were told no, we had to walk, because we had registered as beginners. there was no flexibility at all for what was a miserable ride. When I asked if we could at least stop to get closer and look at the ponies nearby, we were again told no, we couldn't leave the path. The ponies were about 2 metres away. All in all, the only highlight was the horses themselves, which were beautiful and we enjoyed hanging out with them afterwards. Sad to say that the best part of the tour was when it was over!
If I could give some actual advice for the company: don't use a tour guide yet until you have actually seen how they do with tourists, and if it's a miserable rainy day and you're walking up and down a hill, maybe encourage them to make it enjoyable for the guests with different gaits and at a MINIMUM, have some knowledge on the horses to share.
For tourists - there are so many horse riding companies around Iceland, do your research and don't just go to the first one you find!

We chose the day tour with our 8 year old daughter, all three of us well experienced in riding. Perfect guide Nadine took the best care of us and our daughter on this private tour. We had the option to always turn round if our daughter hadn’t been strong enough. As the day presented itself with a clear blue sky there was no need and we enjoyed ourselves in this 4,5 hour tour. We learned to tölt easyly. Highlight: Nadine climbed with us (riding our horses of course) up the mountain next to the farm where we had a stunning 360° view on all the glaciers in the Southern area of Iceland - just amazing! Thank you! We will for sure come again some day!

Feel home far away from home …and feel safe , while learning how to ride a horse in this breathtaking countryside (-;
This feeling you get , when staying at this beautiful family- owned farm .
The athmosphere was great right from the beginning , because of the warm - hearted welcoming of the owners.
The cottage we stayed, was comfortable with a amazing view to mountains and horses.
The way Arna and Simmi run the farm is admirable and we definitely wish to be there again…

This was our introduction to the Icelandic horse, and I highly recommend this stable. Our day was an extremely rainy and windy one, not the best for any outdoor activity, but we went on to the stable, not sure if they might cancel. We met the owner, Simmi, and he was very nice, and perfectly willing to accompany us. He had plenty of rain gear and warm things to keep us comfortable. His property is lovely, and the ride had a lot of variety on it. There were creeks to cross, some nice paths along highways, up and down little hills, and through fields of crops. The horses are wonderful trail mounts, and this stable is an easy drive for anyone staying in Reykjavik. Give them a visit!

Local, but write in English here. I went on a beautiful ride with my two teenage daughters and found the experience great. Nadine was super nice and attentive and clearly knows her profession, the horses were great and my horse a very good riding horese, smooth and powerful. Really reccommend a visit there.

We spend a wonderful time with no riding experience with horses and enjoyed a 1 hour tour around the farm on horseback. Our german guide Franziska made sure everyone was comfortable and did a great job guiding us through the wonderful area. She watched our experience level and let us tolt. Took us through beautiful countryside and river. I highly recommend this Island Horse Ranch.

We rode and hour with Sigmundur in late June. He is a friendly character and good instructor, who let everyone in the group get comfortable on the horse. By the end our whole group felt comfertable enough to go fast! Reasonably priced and great fun! Would definetely recommend! Only regret we have is that we did not book a longer ride!
