The toll is only 5 dollars for the 26 mile bridge . It’s quite a feet of engineering and all you can see is water both sides of the road . Every now and then there is a hump in the road presumably to allow boats to go under the road. As you reach the top of the hump you can see both carriageways stretching out for as far as you can see. While not the most scenic or interesting bridge I have driven over it is mesmerising

We had dinner on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain. It was both beautiful and romantic. Another big draw is the causeway which affords a beautiful drive. It is an amazing lake.

This is the second time I have crossed the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, this time with family aboard an RV. It was a $9 toll to cross the bridge, but what a trip. This is an amazing work of engineering and ingenuity and worth taking the stroll across. If you are in a regular size vehicle with two axles the toll is $5, definitely worth the trip. It is a little out of the way unless you come or go from New Orleans directly from the North, but worth it every time. If you happen to cross the bridge leaving New Orleans rather than entering there is no toll stop.

The bridge across the Lake will take you to the suburbs on the other side. It's a rather boring drive. The Lake is a pretty simple affair.

My guidebook says the causeway is so long that in the middle you won't be able to see either shore. I figured we had to experience that. Well, the guidebook lied, but it's still an impressive bridge. It goes on longer than you can imagine and I don't regret driving here. There is a toll for crossing the entire way, but if you enter from the New Orleans side you can drive as far as you want, then turn around to the southbound lane at one of the many turnarounds and head back southbound without paying a toll. We found seeing the New Orleans skyline on the southbound drive particularly worth seeing.

We did the long drive across the bridge that spans this very large lake. Lots of history here and an important part of the protection from floods not always successful. On the other side are big suburbs, one where a friend lives.

The causeway or bridge that cuts across lake pontchartrain is the longest bridge in the world across a body of water (continuously) at nearly 24 miles in length. So that makes it a bucket list item. There is no place to stop along the way and nothing really to see unless you are traveling it during sunrise or sunset.
If you travel it northbound, it’s free.. after numerous trips to New Orleans, I finally did this on my way back to Houston. It added another half hour to the trip but glad I did it.

We had been across the Lake Pontchartrain bridge several years ago, so while we were in the area, we decided to drive it again. So glad we did. It is a beautiful drive. Pretty amazing construction right there!
