Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Best, safest place within walking distance to French Quarter

We always stay in the Warehouse District on trips to New Orleans. It's a residential downtown area within a few blocks of Bourbon, Royal, Frenchmen, Poydras and Canal (all the main streets). It's SAFE and QUIET compared to the hotels closer to Bourbon, and there is plenty of off street parking, even monitored parking if you are willing to pay the $40-$50 per night valet fees. I lived in New Orleans until Katrina, and since then I always make it a point to visit often and stay in the Warehouse District on most of my visits (if I'm not staying with my family there!)

stayed at a hotel that was converted from an old warehouse.. a good number of businesses and apartments are now in old warehouses. Decent, well kept area. . Has a trendy vibe and a touristy area. Felt safe at night

Some nice bars, restaurants and hotels

We stayed at the Renaissance Arts Hotel in the Warehouse District which is a few blocks from the French Quarter. The Warehouse District is a lot quieter than the French Quarter and is home to some nice bars, cafes and restaurants. The World War ll museum is also sited in this district of New Orleans. We especially liked the Legacy Restaurant and Tommy's Restaurant in the Warehouse District, both of which served excellent food. We felt safe walking around the area both during the day and evening and we were glad to be staying a short walk away from the hustle & bustle of the very busy French Quarter.

Best area to stay in NO

We stayed in the quarter for a few days then moved over to the Marriott Courtyard on Julia Street. Clean, nice, no homeless people, tons of condos and locals, gallery and some of the best restaurants in NO all in a few block walk. If you want to go into the quarter its a 15 minute walk. The area has great coffee shops - Bittersweet - and a brand new grocery store - Rouses - that sells everything including beer and wine.

Excellent Place to visit
This is the place to visit for Art. You can see it and buy it if you are rich enough. The museums are worth the time. The outsider art at the "O" was well worth the gate fee. The civil war and WWII museums are right next to each other. The contemporary Art museum is here too. Getting around was easy as hopping on the trolley. It makes a circle from Lee's statue to the French Quarter and back, walk to anywhere from the trolly is less than a couple of blocks. The conductors are very helpfull. Th e galleries are coming back.
Do not miss the wednesday night frolic in the park. Music food and lots of people. More than that these people all were having a celebration. Go blueroofs

We used to stay in the French Quarter when visiting NOLA. Since we discovered the Warehouse District, we don't consider staying anywhere else. This area offers a variety of hotels, restaurants, and bars. It is a totally different experience from the Quarter. We do want to the French Quarter during our visit, but would not consider staying there. I feel this is the up and coming area of NOLA.

Up & coming area (still) with lots of hotels and restaurants

Our hotel was in this area so we had an opportunity to wander around a bit. We found lots of redevelopment and lots of established businesses - especially restaurants and hotels. The architecture is more industrial than the Quarter (of course, since this was - and still is - a business district) but it's still of a New Orleans style. If you're looking for good food, this is a good area to find it.

We started staying in the Warehouse District in 2003 when our daughter got married in New Orleans. The Renaissance Arts Hotel had just opened. We have watched the area come into its own over the years. Our daughter & family lived in New Orleans for almost 10 years so we saw lots of changes. Old buildings turned into hotels, shops, galleries, condo's and restaurants. They keep the old and add new insides, I commend them for that, it makes it very interesting & keeps the historical aspect. We went back last September as tourists since our daughter & family moved back to the Chicago area in 2012 & saw more positive changes in the Warehouse District. Always good to see. New Orleans has been through a lot since Katrina and we were there to see the positive changes since our daughter lived there. The city will always hold a special place in our heart as will the Warehouse District, our home away from home for 10 years.

Excellent area - revitalised landmarks/buildings - good dining -galleries - condos

The WD is a sectionb/neighborhood within the downtown core of NOLA. It's being lovingly 'captured' renovated and restored to accommodate those wanting to live in the downtown area yet NOT in The Quarter (as example) ... those who want newer/modern/on trend living. LOTS of wharehouses are being reinvented as lofts/condos/apartment buildings with main floor store front Galleries, Restaurants and the like. Julia Street is a 'main'.
Emirl's is in this area, as are MANY fine fine eateries. Good little morning and all day coffee shops abound. Nice hotels spattered about. Quieter part of town with several little "dog-walking" (if you will) squares.

My kinda town

I was born and raised in New Orleans, and love visiting my home State every chance I get.
Love those beignets and cafe au lait at the original Cafe Du Monde. Also PJ's coffee was pretty good too, they have more choices and variations, but for a simple cup of chickory-coffee roast, please try Cafe du Monde.
