When seen from the water, this bridge is a beautiful sight. Plans for a bridge across the Narrows between the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island had been around for centuries. It was not until 1964 that the Verrazano Narrows Bridge was completed. It is the longest suspension bridge in the United States, with two decks to handle the incessant traffic. The bridge is named after the first European to enter New York Harbor.

Swimming across the narrows is not recommended, even in warm weather. I recommend that thirsty travelers try taking a bridge, such as this one. Great views of the lower new york bay and the channel. Coney Island can be seen in the distance, and Sandy Hook NJ. At present there are no plans to add bike lanes or allow bikes to cross this bridge. That would, of course, be the cherry on the cake

This is a very. long bridge. The Verrazanno Narrows Bridge connects Brooklyn with Staten Island, both boroughs of NYC. The bridge spans the entrance to the New York harbor. It was once the longest suspension bridge in the world. The bridge is the easiest way to get to Staten Island, though it may be cheaper to take the ferry.

I live close to this beautiful bridge. I’ve always found it beautiful but never appreciated it until I went to San Fransisco and saw The Golden Gate Bridge. While on a tour, we were told that the Verrazano is largest expansion bridge, The Golden Gate Bridge comes in second.

This bridge is huge so it's often in your sight as you travel around the area. We've seen it from the narrows as we travel on ships and it is majestic. Major transportation artery linking Brooklyn and Staten Island.

This bridge soars up over the harbor entrance and links Brooklyn to Staten Island. It provides an important transportation link in the region. Our cruise ship sailed under it and it was a very grand entrance to New York. Too bad it was early in the morning, too early.

I crossed the bridge before the rush hour traffic. It was smooth sailing all the way across. I was over the bridge in less than five minutes. I'm a big fan of crossing the Verrazano early and seeing the boats in New York Harbor.

Drove across the bridge, which always take some time due to traffic. Wish had oriented myself before crossing to see if there was any great views toward Manhattan. Interesting to see the 2 forts at either end.

A great drive either way. Stunning view of the harbor and of Brooklyn and Staten Island. Easy to speed across. Take your time to take it in. Also lovely to see from the parks along the water in Bay Ridge.

We were headed to Pennsylvania early in the morning. When there's no traffic, this is a scenic bridge to cross. I love seeing the boats in NY Harbor. Just don't forget your EZ-Pass!
