What a find! Never explored Brooklyn before let alone Carroll Gardens. Thoroughly enjoyed the easy, flat pavements that lead throughout the area taking you seamlessly on to other areas like Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill. Locals so friendly and always willing to help me especially with a dodgy front door key to my Airbnb pad which was truly stylish and comfortable. Places to eat and drink almost on every corner as well as grocery stores, bookstores and wine shops. I didn't use the Subway but got around using Lyft which is like Uber - great cars and drivers. Parts of Carroll Gardens with their gorgeous renovated brownstones and window boxes reminded me of residential streets of London. A wonderful suburb where I felt safe at all times. Would definitely return and by far more preferable than crazy Manhattan where I have previously stayed many times on vacation.

This is a good neighborhood for a long stroll. Enjoy the beautiful brownstones plus some newer buildings that are intriguing. Some good food on the shopping street.

ALL my mother's family and my wife's family came from this part of Brooklyn which was ALL REAL ITALIANS from Atlantic Ave all the way to the Piers of Red Hook. NOW, none of my family lives here and ALL the REAL ITALIANS are GONE. They have been replaced with all these mutts and hipsters from everywhere BUT Brooklyn. They even put a Whole Foods on the Gwanus Canal! WHO in their right mind would want to be anywhere around the Gwanus Canal EXCEPT some hipster mutt from BF Kansas! I can't believe they've got a Billy Bob's BarBQue place and a Mexican restaurant in the place that was ONLY ITALIAN in EVERY respect. ALL the wonderful history of this area is GONE FOREVER.

Lovely neighborhood with beautiful homes. I have found the best way is along Carroll Street (of course!) walking up from Bond Street to Smith. The block between Hoyt and Smith is stunning. Beautiful yards. The commercial block of Smith Street has local stores and eateries with a nice feel. A great neighborhood to bike through.

Certainly gentrified, certainly lovely, and very central to downtown Brooklyn, the subways and some restaurants. Very picturesque brownstone neighborhood. Charming.

This is so sad. Brooklyn has been gentrified so much! Just pushed residents that lived there, and raised their families, for, DECADES, right out! I often wonder, just how many young people, who grew up here, could even afford to come back to the neighborhoods they grew up in, and raise THEIR families, if they wanted to? Actually, I'm sure I know the answer to that. How great that these people get nice, cushy, neighborhoods to dwell in. How disgusting that they get to have it at the expense of the despair of those less fortunate families, and their younger generations. That's all.

this is where the mob houses their mum's and grannies ... so pretty safe to wander about - leafy green wide streets

Close to downtown Brooklyn and all of the subway lines, full of restaurants and cafes, and lots of tree-lined residential streets very quiet. We would live here if we could. Nice visit.

Carroll Gardens is a quiet and 3 or 4 story neighborhood in the middle of Red Hook, Brooklyn Heights and Gowanus. It is one of those quiet places in the city that let's you forget that you are in NYC. The architecture is classic and it appears that the residents take great pride in their homes. I wouldn't call this a must-see, but if you are in the area it is just a nice place to explore.
