Neighbourhood: Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

- Gary nGlasgow, United Kingdom88 contributionsLast minute visitIt was our last visit before leaving New York and I'm happy we made the effort. Probably the best open roof top view for us and we did them all, some are higher, some are newer but this roof top view was open and iconic. Well worth the visit. We couldn't agree more! - WinstonKocani, Republic of North Macedonia7 contributionsAWESOME day and night views! Try to go around sunset. Be ready for the security check.Although this is not the highest or newest observation deck in New York City, it is in a central Midtown location and has an excellent view of Manhattan and the surrounding urban area, including Central Park to the north, the Empire State Building to the south, Liberty Island, Ellis Island, New Jersey, Long Island, and bridges. Backpacks will have to be put through an x-ray, and visitors carrying such bags will be temporarily separated from people not carrying bags. Pepper spray and small pocket knives are apparently not prohibited. TIP: On a tight budget, don't take the photo when you're in line to get in the elevator; the background is just a green screen. Take your best camera and take your own photos, or another visitor will be happy to take one or two for you. ;-) There are some openings in the glass walls around the observation deck, so photos can be taken in the open air. The deck is made up of more than one floor, so take some time to walk around and see all the views! This is great advice for future visitors. Thanks for taking the time to write this review! - Kelly DFairfax, Virginia8 contributionsRushed through and didn't get to enjoy at a reasonable paceUnderstanding it is the busy season and the most famous tree on the planet is right next door, I still found my visit to the Top of the Rock to be needlessly rushed and just not enjoyable. Especially with other options out there it is money I wish I'd saved. We were not even allowed to get our photos taken or read about the building. It was hurry up and wait. Once on top the views of course were great, but the experience was just not all that much fun. We’re very sorry to hear about your negative experience during our busy season. We greatly appreciate the feedback so that we may make improvements to our services for future visits. - HappyFamily43082Westerville, Ohio380 contributionsLook Up While on the ElevatorWe had a perfect December day for our visit to Top of the Rock. We appreciated that we were able to see so much of the city from this vantage point. We were disappointed with the dining options at Rockefeller Center and in hindsight should have eaten at a pizza place or food cart outside the complex. We're so glad you liked the view! - lewm91Newport, United Kingdom72 contributionsGreat views and deck- awful experienceThe observation deck is great offering quite unrestricted views of the city with a really great look at the Empire State Building etc. we did it at night and are really glad we did- but the experience was dampened by the fact that way too many people had been let in and we felt like cattle. It took us 45 minutes to queue back to the elevator to get down! The staff were doing their best but we’re too overwhelmed, there’s no way this can be organised and unchaotic unless somebody starts to control how many people enter at a time. Stop overbooking is my only advice for a 5* reviewThank you so much for this feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the views but we apologize for the rest of the experience. We appreciate hearing form you and this will be passed along to management to make improvements to our services for future visits.Written 8 January 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 January 2023
- Christy F3 contributionsGreat views, confusing instructions. We went just after Xmas. We had booked, Queue outside was massive and staff outside told us to join it but not before our ticket time. However, going into the centre to look at shops, we found the entrance with no queue and staff there told us to go straight there at our ticket time, which we did and didn’t have to queue. Once at the top, the signs were confusing, and there was no direction from staff as to where to go. Had wanted to visit the rooftop bar but couldn’t find it. Other shops and restaurants on ground floor were disappointing and the atmosphere there was dark and dingy. Views at the top are of course stunning although you can’t see much of the Chrysler, you do get a great view of the empire state. We are glad you enjoyed the views, but we apologize for the confusion at the top. This is great feedback and we will be passing it along to management to make improvements for future visits. - Amy DLondon, United Kingdom295 contributionsBetter than Empire State BuildingWe decided on Top of the Rock instead of Empire State and I'm so glad we did. We paid an extra $10 to go at sunset but that was worth it. Once you're up you can stay for as long as you like. There are three different levels of viewpoints and each is worth a visit. The views are very different from the north and south sides of the building. We're so glad you enjoyed your visit! Thanks so much for taking the time to review us. Glad the trip was worthwhile and we hope to welcome you back soon.Written 25 January 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2022Written 24 January 2023
- arobbo3 contributionsViews amazing, staff just as goodWent to top of the rock today as a party of 6 ladies. Whilst in the queue we got talking to Kheenan who worked there who could not of been more helpful and friendly, he was very knowledgeable and made the wait in the queue an enjoyable one. He really made our Rockerfeller centre trip special so thank you Kheenan. Your brilliant. Once we got to the top the views were unbelievable, lucky to have such a clear day and then saw the sunset. We're so glad you enjoyed your visit! We'll be passing the kudos along to Kheenan, glad to hear it. If you like queuing endlessly then this place is for you!! Going up wasn’t the worst queue but coming down took well over an hour of queueing. View isn’t as good as other buildings (summit one etc). Overall pretty crap

BEWARE THE BEAM. A queue with a timed ticket, that gets you into a queue for the lift, to then queue for an escalator. Excellent views, stunning building. Queue for 45 minutes for the beam, and when we get to the front they change their process and group everyone together. After much complaining they continued to do individual groups. Queue to get to the down escalator, to then queue to go out to the other photo station (told we couldn’t go past), to then queue for the down lifts…over two hours. This was the only attraction we visited with such poor queue management in New York….I’m still in the queue…

Horrible experience, the incredibly rude staff could really do with improving their customer service. Was met at the door by a grumpy little man who very rudely told me to hurry up and get in even though he was standing directly in front of me, blocking my way. After you go in its a long queue up the elevator where staff usher you by pointing and grunting. They let big groups skip ahead of couples for the lifts and the views overall were better from the empire state. Its not 360deg views on the rock. There is also no rooftop bar. If in doubt the top of the empire is the one to go for, staff are much nicer and you get a much better 360 view of NYC. I wish i had saved my money rather than waste it on this poor experience.

The staff was helpful and they were really as organized as I could imagine them being. But there is limited elevator capacity and it takes as long as it takes. We went at a very busy time so it might not always be that slow. But it took us about an hour and a half and we probably only stayed in the viewing areas for 20 minutes

We were booked for Sunday night but got there to be told the visibility was poor due to the weather so couldn't go up. 😢 we were travelling back home the next day so couldn't make the suggested offer of the following evening. Just a warning ⚠️ they do not issue refunds!! We were very upset but decided to try and go up anyway as it was our children's first trip to New York. We met the manager Erica at the stairs and explained how upset we were . She was an absolute angel!! She arranged for us to go up the next morning on expresss passes so skipping the queues and getting to see the views in time to make our flights. Cannot thank her enough along with Sue ( I think that's her name) on customer services. Thank you both so much 💓

Possibly the best view of New York but the venue itself feels tired and in need of improvement. About 75% of the experience was a queue for the elevator. Also there were quite a lot of staff providing ‘professional photos’ for $25 which took up prime viewing spots and cheapened the experience (not to mention these were just taken on iPhones!). Felt like desperate monetisation. In my opinion other observation decks are better (e.g. the Empire State Building which was much slicker and also had a little museum which added context). It is good to get an unobstructed view with no glass panels though.
Very much the ‘no frills’ observation deck option. You get what you pay for!!

I was blown away by the view from the Top of the Rock in New York City. You get this complete 360-degree look at the skyline, Central Park, the Empire State Building, and the Hudson River – it's like this awesome city panorama. The observation deck is smartly designed, so no matter where you stand, you get these clear views. And they've got these cool binoculars scattered around, so you can zoom in on your favorite spots. It's just a perfect setup to take in all the beauty of the city.

Amazing view . Went at night after 10 pm , was excited to see that it’s still open . There is two levels to the viewing , higher up level is nicer view as there is no glass around it ( it’s safe as fall would be only one floor and that one is protected by the glass ) price is very reasonable , and I love that is open till midnight ! Please go !

Best always to check with the top of the rock folks to get an accurate answer. Intervening factors like time of the day or day of the week or other factors might influence your ability to do this.

"CityPASS®:
Hi! I am referring to CityPASS®. Do holders of CityPASS® who wish to visit Top of the Rock observation deck have the ability to make a reservation for BOTH a date and a time, so that we do not need to come down in person to obtain the NEXT available ticket-time like holders of other passes (i.e. NY Pass, Explorer Pass, or Sightseeing Pass)? I would like to seek clarification on this because a page on TOTR website allows CityPASS® holders to enter their (a) CityPASS® Number, (b) Date of Visit, and (c) Time of Visit. It gives me the impression that CityPASS® holders are able to do so, and after making that online reservation, they are given a timed-entry ticket and can simply walk in and enjoy the attraction on that reserved date and time.
NY Pass/Explorer Pass/Sightseeing Pass:
Whereas, for holders of NY Pass, Explorer Pass, or Sightseeing Pass, a page on TOTR website states "NY Pass, Explorer Pass, and Sightseeing Pass must be redeemed in person at our box office. Guests may be ticketed for the next available ticket-time or may choose a future date and time."
For your advice, please.
Thank you!

Hello,
My and my brothers will be visiting new York city next month. I'm interested in going up this tower.
I wanted to get some tickets for "general admission". Does this mean you'd have to queue up/line up when you arrive or just go straight to the door and show the tickets bought few weeks prior?
I'm looking to go up the tower around 10am.
Thank you

Hi firstly in November we were not asked for any proof of vaccination and not many were wearing masks. You can go straight in and buy your tickets it is very well organised with people leading you to elevators and sending you where you need to go

I am planning a visit in June and about to purchase tickets for TOTR- bringing 14 yo grandson. I have been before but never at sunset. Sunset is due around 8:30 on the date I’m planning. If I buy for 7:30 will I get in close to that time so we can enjoy the daytime views? Suggestions please.
Bonjour, quelle est la meilleure application (App) pour se procurer à l’avance des billets d’entrée dans les différentes attractions et bénéficier d’économies sur les droits d’entrée?
