New York, New York - What a Wonderful Town
We had a great time. We saw "Good Night, Oscar," which was fabulous. I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't speak after for about 10 minutes. Highly recommend. Also recommend Gallagher's Steak House - fantastic. Pricey, but worth it. We stayed at the Courtyard Times Square (on 40th Street) - very comfortable, and a couple hundred dollars less than the Marriott Marquis, but still within easy walking distance of Broadway plays.

    NON STOP ACTION
My wife and I visited New York for two days as part of a larger cruise and really enjoyed the experience. Times Square is located Midtown and is truly the heart of the city that never sleeps. It's frantic during the day and absolutely manic at night. A relatively easy 20 minute walk from the cruise ship terminal and well worth the effort to get there. Just be warned that it's almost impossible to find a free to enter restroom in the area so, if you need to go, you'll have to go into a bar or eatery and buy a product before being permitted to use the sites facilities.

Must See - Day and Night
This is obviously a must if you're visiting New York. We came here during the day and at night. Night is so cool with all the lights. Make sure you look at it from the top of the stairs above the TKTS, and then you look at it from the other way too (at the other end). There's lots of people, so just keep an eye on your group + kids if you bring them here.

    What A Huge Crowd
So many people and cars, it’s crazy! Yet this is where it all takes place. And surprisingly, I felt safe all along. I think everyone has to go there once, if only to see the lights and giant screens, and give us a feel for where all the TV stations are, where NASDAQ is, and where the Ball drops on New Year’s Eve. I was actually surprised by how condensed and small this general area was, but it’s all there. I will admit, I only walked through here because all of the activities were away from the square. I could only take so much of a crowd. It sure made me appreciate suburbia.

A crystallised NYC experience. But keep your wits about you.
My 3rd time in NYC and Times Square. Still a feast for the senses and a must-see in the big apple. I don’t know if it’s my age(!) but it was a bit too bustling to stay in for any amount of time. We did McD’s & had a great view of the whole square. A great cheap & very American lunch! I visited Sephora & took the obligatory photos & then I was outta there. As others have no doubt mentioned, if you see Elmo et al, run. They’ll push themselves into your photos & then get angry if you refuse to pay them. They normally ask for $20. I only had $1 on me (who carries cash nowadays?!) & it was not gratefully received. A bit intimidating actually. Keep your wits about you & enjoy the experience.

    Never a Dull Moment
This place is always busy. There are celebrities like the Naked Cowboy, The Staue of Liberty, Mickey and Minie Mouse, and more. These are working people so you can pay to get your picture taken with them. The Ball is at the south end and changes colour. The Red stairs are at the North end, where you can line up and get Broadway tickets at a discounted price.

    Happening Place
One of the busiest area in New York. Also probably the most crowded tourist spot. Home to major restaurants, hotels, stores, and the best theater district in the world. Definitely a happening place which is great for people watching.

    Amazed by the LED Lights
As a tourist you MUST go to Times Square when visiting NYC, I mean it when I say it! I have to say is better in person than in pictures, I just felt amazed by the leds of the giant screens. Of course as it is a very touristic place, there will be a lot of people, like, ALWAYS, even more when you go visit in the night (but you must go in the night to see the led screens) You will also find a lot of marvelous stores, like the M&M’s and Disney’s Stores, or the Hard Rock Cafe NYC. You can also see some people in costumes trying to take a picture with you, Don’t do it! they will only take a photo with your own camera and it will cost you 20 dollars!!! At the end, I wouldn’t recommend going more than once or twice to Times Square during your trip, otherwise you’ll have to pass through all the people. You can take very aesthetic photos there! just WOW!

Plan Ahead for Washrooms and Use one whenever you get the chance - because the chances will be few and far between
I’ve always loved Times Square. But travelling with young kids can be difficult here because of the severe lack of public washrooms. This problem completed derailed our plans and put a major damper on our experience. We wound up having to stand in line at Krispy Kreme for about 10 minutes, just to make a purchase so that we could use 1 of their 2 washrooms. Then we stood in the washroom line for another 25 mins. NOT a good experience when you have someone with a little bladder that’s about to explode. Other than that major flaw, it’s a great time!

    It's everything you imagine!
Times Square is the busiest place we've ever been! So much to see and hear and do. We went a few times at different times of the day. Craziest was 9.30pm on the Friday night. So many people! The Times Square lights made it feel like the middle of the day. Amazing.

Good historical detail Claire was able to answer all my questions and keep it interesting but I HATE Trip Advisor for “requiring” more characters than I need!

I’ve been fortunate to come to New York many times over the years and Times Square has always been one of my favourite places in any city. I’ve always looked forward to visiting it on every trip.

However this time was so different. I was last here six years ago and in those intervening six years it’s really gone downhill. It has always been unapologetically brash, but it’s got beyond tacky. The hawkers are out of control, and I’m far from a prude but the naked women (with body paint bra and thong) when there’s kids around. Most of all the smell of weed everywhere just makes it feel so bad. The weed is the worst, it’s literally everywhere and people walk past with big fat joints it makes you feel sick. Weed shops on every block.

The influx of the bicycle pedi-cabs are annoying, and really expensive. Anywhere from $3-5 per minute. They’re total cringe and will run you down even when it’s your time to cross the road. We got stalked by one as we walked down the street with his music banging away. He would not take ‘no’ for an answer.

Obviously a photo on the red steps is a must but we ended up trying to avoid Times Square whenever we could which is so sad as it has always been a favourite.

New York City always amazes us. Broadway shows were top notch performances. The restaurants were excellent. We especially liked Senza Gluten by Jemiko and Mamacitas Mexican restaurant.

Evening in Times Square is like NYEve every night! It's packed, heaving, street artists, lights etc. There is even raised staging to look out on what's going on.
You're in for a treat.

Everyone has already seen pictures of Times SQ, and of course no one should miss this exceptional sightseeing place when in NYC.

The illuminated billboards are unique to admire, it's also the hub for the Broadway theatre district.

But... of course hordes of tourists (like us 😉) are invading this landmark 🙉🙊🙈, as well as all kind of , maybe local, homeless, mentally challenged .... people/crackheads. Pay also attention to crazy people with their bikes on the sidewalks!!! or not respecting red lights and endangering walkers crossing the street!

The NYPD is busy watching this place and has a lot to do!

Around 9pm the sidewalks were covered with trash and litter ...

Plenty of overcrowded, expensive, .... not inviting looking tourist traps waiting for their victims.

Don't miss to visit TimesSQ, but don't have too high expectations!

What an amazing place. This is a must if you are visiting New York. It is expensive but well worth it. There is a load of restaurants and bars to choose from. Wrap up well as it’s cold in November. We went on to visit Vegas and did the canyon trip et cetera however New York leaves a special place with me and I will definitely be visiting again.

It's full of bright lights? Yes. It's got big energy? Yes. Nice to see? Yes. But it's also very crowded to a point that if you are in the middle of it all is hard to move. There's lots of things to do around; I would say something for everyone. But I personally prefer quite and less human contact. Try it out for yourself and make your own opinion.

We had 2 weeks in NYC and this was our least favourite place we stayed in the city. Go, see what you want to see in the area and get out! If we hadn’t pre booked for 4 nights, we would have moved after one. It is convenient for Broadway shows, but that’s offset by the touts, scammers, poor food and density of tourists
