Neighbourhood: Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.

- natters14Portsmouth, United Kingdom2,533 contributionsStunning building - currently under renovationThis was my 8th visit to New York City - my last was 19 years ago - and the Flatiron has always been a favourite of mine so I was so excited to see it again. During the evening, I actually walked past it as it’s shrouded in scaffolding so was almost unrecognisable! During the day - and on a beautifully sunny, crisp wintry day, I sat on a park bench and admired it (obviously still sadly under scaffolding!) Well worth a visit to admire the iconic structure and as it’s in a great and convenient location.Visited February 2023Travelled soloWritten 10 April 2023

We stayed nearby on this visit and it was a joy to see the warm stone of this beautiful building everyday. Actually looks better at night at the moment as there is some netting and scaffolding which is less visible at night.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 17 September 2023
- The Trusty Trip Gal!England, United Kingdom113 contributionsI Wouldn’t Of Noticed It If I Hadn’t Googled Where It Was…This was one of New York’s landmarks I was quite excited about seeing in real life. I was walking down the street and was actually looking around for it until I double checked my maps and I looked up and half of it was covered in scaffolding and netting! I know it can’t be helped but I was very disappointed. I actually didn’t think it looked as bold and impressive as it does in the movies or on photographs. It seemed more dull in real life. Would love to see it without scaffolding on.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 October 2023

Great to see this iconic building as it has featured in countless films and especially the John Wick series as the Continental Hotel.

Only been around it and not inside, so there are regular NYC streets and pavements around which you can access easily as a wheelchair user

Iconic place. Unfortunate the scaffolding does affect the view but still, good visit and beautiful park right across the street.

The Flatiron building is worth a photo stop while in the neighborhood. The building is cover with a lot of scaffolding and construction, but you're still able to get that classic photo from the right place.

This building is really iconic and it was very nice to see it!
When we visited it was in renovation. But I had already been able to see it on a previous visit, so we didn't really mind it.

The building comprises of shops - lower floor and office upper floors so unless you ar going on business or find a friendly business owner highly unlikely - but still the best views are on the outside.
