Great selection of beer
Nov 2019 • Friends
Overall, an enjoyable spot. Great selection of beer and the food was pretty good ( I had the chicken sandwich with chips).

Service was friendly and quick.

Not a lot of tables in the place - so needed to wait a bit on a Tuesday night (there were seats at the bar open)

Excellent beer with decent food
May 2019
I applaud them for having a kitchen since many craft breweries do not. However, the offerings are pretty basic burger and sandwich fare. It’s totally worth going just for the quality of their beer - particularly since their IPA’s are not blown out bitter bombs. It’s a nice industrial space to chill with friends while waiting for rush hour to die down.

Excellent beer and good food

Rough Draft is a place to go if you want good beer and decent food. I have tried about 8-10 beers over several visits and they are typically on point for style and quite nice. They have several barrel aged beers which are strong but excellent. Food is typical bar food but it is quite tasty. They make good flatbreads with ample toppings. I have had several of the hot sandwiches and every one was good. Last one I had was the Po' Boy and the chicken andouille sausage was nicely spiced as was the sauce. The potato salad side is a nice change from the fries that are everywhere else. Great place to go for good beer and food and low prices make it easy to return.

Great Beer
Sep 2017 • Friends
Stopped in with friends for the first time and tried different beers and we all had different food. Everyone was commenting on how good their dish was, as for the beer there are so many to choose from it's hard to make a choice. Very good selection and all good brews.

Glad I stopped!

My first stop on a little self directed beer tour. Enjoyed the stout. Other beers pretty solid. Only did a few samples as it was going to be a long afternoon. They just installed a kitchen, so would be a cool place to grab a bite and some beers!

Great brews sans the crowds ......
Jul 2016 • Friends
I've been enjoying the craft brew season in San Diego since it took off. Started with Stone, as it got too big I progressed through Alesmith, Ballast Point, Belching Beaver, abandoning each for the same reason. Doing the rounds at old Alesmith locale (now Mikkeler) we would hit Hess and then Rough Draft before heading for food. Of those Rough Draft has maintained the "real" brew pub atmosphere that the others have lost... Great place to have decent brews, service has always been great and you can actually carry on a conversation with your fellow connoisseurs - especially when sitting on the patio....

My new go-to place to meet old work buddies !

Nice brew pub

Located in a business area it looks a little questionable when you first arrive. The inside is well done (very industrial looking) and the draft selection is quite good. They now serve food but the menu is limited. Definitely worth a try.

One of my favorite discoveries in San Diego
Jun 2015 • Friends
Rough Draft is my favorite brewery that I discovered while in San Diego. (You can't count things like Stone, Ballast Point and Green Flash all of which I knew about before I got there.) It is the now very crowded Mira Mesa section. It is definitely worth checking out.

The tasting room is large and accommodates a lot of people. The service is generally good. They always seem to have a cask on tap. I've never had a bad beer from there (though the coconut stout was a bit too much coconut for me!)

Awesome Brewery
Jan 2015 • Couples
Really like this brewery! What I love (besides the beer) is the location is set up for people to be there! I love that. So many small breweries have small tasting rooms, but not so at Rough Draft. They have a decent sized bar, plus tables and even a sitting area with couches. They have some big TVs over the bar, so you can watch the game and I understand they also have a large area next door so that they can support having events at this location. On top of that, the staff was super friendly when we were there.

The beers are good. Now, I was the driver and so only go to taste, but I have to say that I liked the beers here. They have a good selection of IPAs which is my beer preference, but they also have some Belgian style ales (a couple STRONG ONES) and an amber. Most of the beers here are pretty strong. They do have one IPA that they call the Weeknight, which is a lower abv, but honestly, I didn't care for that one so much. Did I mention the pricing is pretty decent and they do a happy hour style deal during the week where they pick one beer to be the beer of the week that is at a discount.

Overall, I definitely recommend adding Rough Draft to your list of SD breweries to check out... of course, the trickiest part is getting there. Get your GPS out! haha

Stopped by on a Monday night and tried their Stout and Saison. Not at all impressed with the stout. The Saison was drinkable, but again not remarkable. Neither brew tasted poorly, they just didn't taste.
