Don't cry for me, Argentina!
Oct 2018 • Couples
While visiting San Diego for my partner's birthday weekend, we joined the "Don't cry for me, Argentina" cooking class as a surprise (HUGE thanks to manager Lauren who made it all happen) and had an unforgettable evening. Not only was our cook Kekoa "hip", but the place itself is unique and fun and full of colours. He broke the ice quickly by getting everyone involved in some preparation activity, taught valuable kitchen-knife-tricks and showed everyone how easy the preparation of our South American dinner is. The class ended with everyone sitting together enjoying a delicious meal and chatting with newly made friends. 5 stars!!!

A Night in Paris
Aug 2016
My wife and I took a cooking class here on our honeymoon. The meal was French themed and consisted of mussels, a bean salad, coq au vin, and pot de creme. The teacher, Erin, was fantastic. Very knowledgable and made sure everyone was involved. We loved this experience and would recommend taking a class here.

Wonderful for date night!
May 2016 • Friends
Took the cocktail party class and wow! Great food and drink recipes that I can actually duplicate. To me, that's the biggest plus. Class size: 12

We split into four groups and each worked on an appetizer. (with the chance to watch each other as we constructed the recipes)

Once those were cooking (or whatever) we went to the bar area and the appetizers were brought to us to much while we made two drinks.

Repeat 2 more times. Takes about 3 hours.

All in all, excellent evening out. Pace yourself though, there is a LOT of food and while the drinks are more a sample size, that alcohol adds up. Can't wait to take another class!

"Great Learning Experience, While You Eat, Drink & Laugh"
Apr 2016 • Couples
My wife and & I attended the Hipcooks Cooking School on 30th street in San Diego last week and had a wonderful experience. Hipcooks has 3 hour long classes which have a variety of different Menu themes you can pick from. The classes cost $65 unless otherwise noted, and has a 14 student per class limit. This Hipcooks venue is a perfect size and makes you feel very comfortable, and relaxed. New classes are posted around the 1st of each month on their web site, hipcooks.com. Class attendance is by pre-registration only and there are No walk-ins. What you will find at Hipcooks is a fun environment with hands-on experiential learning, were they focus on healthy, fresh, organic and local foods. The class my wife and I signed up for was " The Cocktail Party ", which included a wide range of small snacks, hors d'oeuvres, and cocktails. The Hipcooks class staff consisted of Erin H, who was in charge of teaching all the Food menu items, and Aaron F., who handled all the Cocktail Drink preparations and instructions. And Jess C. who was running around all over the classroom assisting everywhere she could to make are 3 hour class more enjoyable. The entire Hipcooks staff was so professional, very organized, super friendly, and made you feel like you had know them for years. Hipcooks also has several new Kitchen Utensil items like the type you use in the classes for purchase. Also after the class, Erin H. who taught all the culinary parts of the class, and displayed an incredible amount of cooking and leadership knowledge , will send everyone in the class all of the recipes used in the class, via your e-mail, If you want to spend a nice educational, tasty, fun, and relaxed evening with some friends and loved ones, then Hipcooks Cooking School would be a great place to visit. You will not be disappointed !

Fun Time!
Jan 2014 • Couples
My husband and I attended a class here and overall it was a fun time learning to make some yummy food with some new knife skills. I have to echo the other reviewers that this was different from other cooking classes where everyone had something to do all the time, and some did get to do more than others, but still very enjoyable. My advice for this- jump in when they ask for volunteers. Our instructor was fun and personable, the food was delicious, and the other students were neat to get to know.

Overall a great night
Dec 2012 • Friends
Attended a tapas class as a "girls night out" and truly enjoyed the experience. Yes, it is $55 per person, however, the class is 3 hours long, and the food is plentiful and tasty. We made everything from appetizers through dessert, along with homemmade sangria.
If you want an actual private lesson, this is not the experience for you. The food is prepared as a team with only a few people at a time are actually cooking the food (stirring, sauteeing, simmering, etc.). The instructor was good and I did pick up a few pointers. Our instructor was very good, however, she had no formal training as a chef/cook.
We ended the evening by sitting down together at a fabulous candle lit table, enjoying our delicious creations and some fun conversation with our new friends.
I recommend this as a great way to spend a night out for couples, friends or individuals.
I plan on attending again.

Nice experience for $55 a class (per person)
May 2012 • Friends
Hipcooks has multiple locations on the West Coast and provides an informal, lively cooking experience (max 14 people per class). Hipcooks has their own locations, nicely set-up (instead of renting space as some other companies do). The teacher leading the class was very passionate and instructed everyone with a smile. Only constructive comments are that at times, couples were favored over individuals in actual cooking/cutting time and that a number of items were prepared before the class instead of in the actual class. Overall, good value for a $55 fee per person for a 3-hour class.
