This is a large Obelisk that commemorates the Battle of Bunker (Breeds) Hill. The last stop on the Freedom Trail it is a bit of a hike up the hill. When I was there you could only go up in the obelisk on weekends, I was there on a Friday. You can go inside to see the Statue of Joseph Warren. Don't forget to visit the museum across the street when you visit.

That is a lot of steps to go up. View from the top is mediocre, thanks to very small windows with smudgy glass in front. Service is friendly and keeps track of the number of people going up and down. Don't climb if you don't like small spaces

It was interesting to read the history of the monument, but my daughter and I challenged to walk the 294 steps inside the spiraling steps to the top. Every 25 steps were marked so you would know your progress. There were a few narrow vertical windows which brought in light and air. They were open, but screened. We made the 294 steps, but had a tough time with the steps across the street at the museum because we were sore! We now have bragging rights!

If you want to learn more about the beginnings of the American Revolution, this is a good stop. We walked there from the USS Constitution. The museum has an interesting diorama which lights up while various parts of the Battle of Bunker Hill. The rangers in the museum were very knowledgeable and jumped at the chance to talk about the battle. There are stair, 294 of them, to the top of the monument, but I'd only suggest that if you really wanted to see a nice view of the harbor - it was quite the climb inside a small space.

Being British-born, my knowledge of the Revolutionary War in America is poor, so in following the Freedom Trial (on my own) and reaching the monument, the story of the battle was new to me. I wasn’t aware that you could walk up the inside until a helpful member of staff enquired if I wanted to…it’s free and 294 steps to the top ! View not great, but good exercise and a sense of achievement at the end !

While touring Boston, my family spent one day in “Charlestown” and the North End. We walked up to Bunker Hill Museum & Monument. The museum was a bit underwhelming, but the climb to the top of the monument is highly recommended. View is awesome! It took 2 parents and their tweens 10 minutes total to go up and down the 294 steps. (Note: there are restrooms and a water bottle filler in the downstairs of the museum, should you need one.)

It is a short walk from the USS Constitution. We got there and it was too late to climb the monument. The museum was closed as well. What I found disappointing was that there was minimal signage for the museum – it is easy to miss. That said, there isn’t much else to see and appreciate, aside from the monument itself. There were a few posters surrounding it - that gave some information about the battle. The info was enough to get a basic understanding, but that’s all. In other words, if you’re going to go, go when everything is open.

I brought my son here to learn some of the revolutionary war history of our country on a trip to Boston. The hill is well kept as befits a monument to those brave patriots who for our nation's freedom. Even though the battle was a defeat it was a very significant engagement and showed the British that we were serious. We got there before monument itself opened and walked all around and took advantage of the informational plaques. There was some construction going on, performing maintenance on the stairs around the hill. (Good to see the upkeep in progress.) When it opened we spent some time in small building before climbing the 294 steps to the top of the obelisk. It was well worth the climb. It was interesting to at the base the a model of the original monument before the current one built in 1843. Go see the museum across the street as well.
