Neighbourhood: Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.

We weren't sure what to expect at Trinity Church, by Copley Square. But from the first step inside the door, we realized that it was someplace special. Trinity had been built sometime in the late 19th Century, and its style both inside and out is quite unique. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and were suprised at how few other visitors there were. But that was just as well, since it was quiet and peaceful within, conducive to just sitting for a while in reflection and to appreciating quietly the interior which seems both ornate and simple at the same time.
Unlike the more well-known Gothic style, that of Trinity is more Romanesque; that is, an older form with rounded arches and barrel vaulting. However, there are many lovely stained glass windows along both sides, and a large pipe organ above the entrance portal and in the left transcept, was playing quietly (well, quietly, as organs go...) nearly the entire time we were there.
The staff were all pleasant and helpful. The admission price for a "self-guided tour" was $10 a person, and we did not begrudge the amount for an instant. This reviewer, for one, would have gladly paid twice that for the privilege of seeing this distinctive and lovely church up close.

Beautiful church but $40 for a family of four is extremely overpriced. I thought the church would be bigger than it was and more detailed. I thought the price was absurd for a church since the beginning but rationalized it as “well be here for at least an hour, so it’s fine.” Nope! 15 minutes later and we were done.

Save your money and just do Old South Church at the other end of Copley. Free and has a similar look.

Right in the middle of historic Boston, so you can't claim it's out of your way. Stop in, pick up a guide brochure, and enjoy the magnificent Bourne Jones and other windows.

One thing that I always think is cool about this city is that you have the historic buildings mixed right in with the new ones.

Sunday morning, my wife and I attended their outdoor mass. Once the mass concluded we were able to visit the inside of the church and it was simple beautiful. The entire church grounds were priceless. There are many churches in Boston to visit but the Trinity Church was just simply special.

The donation fee is only requested if you are a tourist, not coming for prayer and meditation. No one else was there when we visited around 11am on a weekday. The peaceful, beautiful sanctuary was amazing. Take time to enjoy the details of the place (the memorial feet cushions, the carving on the pews, the memorials, the engravings, etc).

This magnificent Church stands on Copley Square across the beautiful Boston public Library (read that review).
The Church dates back to 19 c, has an imposing exterior, but the interiors are far more beautiful with amazing stained glass and organs.
They charge for entrance, but they allowed me a quick free visit for a prayer.

Beautiful, beautiful church. I suggest going to their website for a virtual tour first and then take the nearly identical audio tour on site. Well worth a visit. Allow about an hour.

I visited the Trinity Church in November 2021. It was a quick visit. I had also visited here in 2018 and wrote a review. I arrived at the church at 12:15 pm on a Sunday. Mass was just ending and the people were leaving. Normally you have to pay a $10 admission fee and there are also guided tours. I was able to go in quickly for free and look at the altar, organ and stained glass. I spent only 10 minutes there on this visit because I was pressed for time. I think next time it may be worth taking a guided tour.

Beautiful building we would have loved to tour. Unfortunately the doors are locked. Unsure if there are tours.
