About
The Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum is a history lesson you won’t forget. Relive the event that started the American Revolution with historical interpreters, interactive exhibits, and full-scale replicas of 18th-century sailing vessels.
Join a town meeting, hang out with talking portraits, and take part in the tradition of tossing tea into the harbor. Then, enjoy a spot of afternoon tea in Abigail’s Tea Room or visit the gift shop for some souvenirs. Entry to the museum is on a first come, first-served basis, so join the line early.

- Ryan H6 contributionsAmazingWe're a Canadian family with two little kids not rally familiar with US history. This museum painted the historical picture clearly in a way that was fully engaging for the whole family with actors and reenactments of the big moments. And it was not oversimplified - when I asked questions about more subtle parts of the revolution (like in what ways African Americans were involved) there were smart informed answers. Learned a lot and had a tonne of fun.Visited February 2023Written 2 February 2023
- TravelerNorfolkHarpswell, Maine350 contributionsFun! Even for 3 senior citizensThis feature is one I’d typically walk past but a younger (40s) had heard it was good, so we went. Great actors in colonial garb. One special surprise - we’re still scratching our heads. How’d they do that?. Good for kids and kids of all ages Recommend.Visited May 2023Written 20 May 2023
- Jaskel08California234 contributionsIt brought history to life! One of my kids’ favorite activities to do in Boston. How can you present a historical event in a fun, exciting way….. especially for kids. Well, present it with actors in period costumes, on board a replica ship to re-enact the event. The mini movie of the battle was another alternative way the of connecting with the audience. As a result, I think my kids, age 13 and 7 understood what happened, the significance of it, and the impact it had leading to the Revolutionary War. There’s a very large souvenir shop with lots of options. The tea room where we can sample some of the tea was a nice touch.Visited June 2023Written 1 July 2023
- Richard SAngmering, United Kingdom501 contributionsProbably one of the best museum experiences in the worldWow, what an experience an interactive journey, not only about the Boston Tea Party but the history leading upto the battle of Lexington. The tour guides, in character were amazing, with group participation really made it real, finishing off with Hollywood quality films explaining the march of the British and the minutemen of Lexington. It was emotional, thought provoking and a museum experience like no other. An absolute must for Boston.Wow, that is a great review! - taraoneilBoise, Idaho91 contributionsEntertaining HistoryIt was entertaining history. Kids 11,8,5,3. 3 year old struggled but the rest did well and enjoyed it. There is a lot of standing so be prepared for that. A couple things that could be improved: they started talking before everyone was in the room, it felt a little rushed. Also, you didn’t get to look around very much always being scooted to the next room. I had a seat for the last movie but most of the group didn’t, I was glad I did. It was expensive which is frustrating. We did all love it though and glad we did it.Greetings Tara, We're so happy to hear that you had such a great time! Thank you for sharing your experience here. - The World is My OysterOrlando, Florida19,579 contributionsAwesome Tour!We took a group of 135 students and chaperones there today and had a wonderful experience! The staff there is truly dedicated to each and every tour. Our sales manager, Scott Harris, truly went above and beyond to ensure that our group had dedicated tour times and accommodated our large party with great customer service. The place itself is really cool, as it makes you step back in time to Colonial Days. The reenactments are very good, and "throwing" tea in the harbor is a great tradition. The gift shop had many great items, including all sorts of teas. The upstairs restaurant/cafeteria also has a good food option and multiple tea you can sample! Great overall experience, thanks to Scott and his dedicated team!Greetings Steve, We're glad to hear that you enjoyed Scott Harris and had a great time! - Anne DSugar Land, Texas31 contributionsSurprisingly FantasticWhen we approached the venue we were skeptical. However, the tour was one of our top three experiences in Boston. Our tour guide “Peter” was phenomenal. She stayed in character before, during and after the tour. You are made to feel as if you are part of that night by handing out cards with individuals names of participants of the Boston Tea Party. Highly recommended. These are all things we love to hear. Great cast that kept us engaged and made history come to life. I especially enjoyed getting to be a character and saying some lines. They made us laugh and also realize the importance of what those who took part in the events had to face and go through and how it impacted our Independence.

We visited whilst moored in Boston on a cruise. We walked to the venue which was a pleasant stroll of about 25 mins. This is a fully interactive fun trip. I even got a speaking part for the rowdy enacted public meeting-and did my best to hide my British accent! The information is excellent and basically outlines the birth of a nation. Those pesky Brits! I admit I felt a bit of a traitor throwing the tea into the bay-but it was too much fun to miss. Great trip and only 1 1/2 hrs. Despite visiting many poor Souvenir Shops over the years the one here was excellent. Recommended.

This floating museum was a great way to learn more about the participants In Boston Tea Party, the American revolution and more. The historic interpreters were proud of telling about local history back in the day. Enjoyed participating in the interactive exhibits and viewing the local artifacts.

This is a great place to learn more about how the independence war of the US started. Not only you get to interact with the staff and throw some tea to the sea, you also see a short film explaining how everything started.

Great acting and interactive elements, especially engaging for the children. Narrative was good at providing particulars to make people and the events come alive. No in depth inclusion of a larger picture of world politics of the time to appreciate why there and then this form of protest was chosen and executed, yet it fully reflected the atmosphere of the period.

We get a $7.50 discount per ticket to the Tea Party experience with our Silver On& Off Trolley tickets. How do get tea party tickets using this discount?

Most likely you would have to purchase the tickets when you arrive there at the tea party experience.

I believe that is one of the only days they close. It would be a shame for you to miss this event as it is well worth the visit. You feel as if you have been transported back in time. Do try to fit it in another day.

Purchased Old Town trolley tour that included Tea Party museum. Is there a way to reserve specific tour time in advance?
Teresa C
Edwardsville, IL100 contributions
I don’t think they take reservations. The trolley stop is right across the street from the Museum. They have several tours going through, in different areas, at the same time. The tour moves quickly through the museum, maybe 45 min total. Ends at gift shop where you could shop or walk back out.

We will be arriving in Boston in September on a cruise ship for the day. Roughly how far do you think it will be from where the ship is likely to dock. Many thanks

No idea. Why don’t you email the purser of the ship before you sail and ask? What I can tell you is that if the walking distance is about the same as the taxi, I would walk because Boston traffic was the worst in the world.

What does it mean when you say there are public one-hour tours scheduled today @10am and 2pm versus normal tours on other times? Is it just the length of time?

it is a guided tour. every half hour. we were there in April, the line was not long to get tickets for the show. in the peak season I would buy tickets online. it saves a couple of bucks and it ensures your spot for your time slot.

We will be in Boston in October. We are planning to tour the city and visit the Boston Tea Party at the end of our day. We are looking for the nearest Legal Seafood for dinner (maybe within walking distance) from this museum. I see that there are several Legal Seafoods in that area, but which one would be the closest? Thank you for your help.

The “barking crab” was extremely popular when I was in Boston. A second popular restaurant was “the daily catch seaport.” Neither did I try...but the amount of people at both was mostly local.

Some of the reviews say wheelchair friendly, others say no. I have a daughter in a stroller-type wheelchair that 2 people can lift over or up a step or two. Can she actually get on the boat?
Drozer68
Montreal, Canada67 contributions
I think it's feasible to access the boat with a wheelchair or a similar device, but you might not find it easy to manoeuvre on to/on the ship.
If should have someone with you who can lift it and move it by hand.
