The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.

I LOVE this theatre
Nov 2019
This is my favorite SF movie theatre. There are interesting films, not run of the mill Hollywood movies but more unique, indie and interesting ones with depth. It's easy to get to on BART a few blocks away, the popcorn is freshly made, the seats are loungy and as a bonus, there's a bar with snacks or walk to the many other choices either in the Embarcadero Center or along the Embarcadero if you want to make an evening of it.

Great Little Theatre
May 2019
Last night I was uplifted by a film on Aretha Franklin recording a gospel album in the early 70's. I've seen quirky comedies, informative documentaries, and riveting dramas at this little gem of a theatre. New seats are very comfortable. Easy to get there on public trans, lots of good restaurants in the area to make it a night. This is just about the only theatre I visit on a regular basis in San Francisco. I may not always love the movie I chose, but I always enjoy the experience because the theatre is clean and easy.

Worn out theater
Apr 2019 • Solo
I just saw high Life, a movie set an interstellar space. I sat in a recliner that squeaked and creaked everytime I breathe. and the screen was covered with small holes which is emitted tiny dots of blue light. Nothing like small blue dots covering a screen during a movie that depends on pictures of a black hole. This theater is getting worse and worse by the day.

Go for the recliner seats and take yourself out to the movies!

Go for the recliner seats and take yourself out to the movies.
I saw three movies this trip to San Francisco. Many people can’t be seen going solo during the day. Sometimes you might have the whole theater to yourself.

If you walk around a little and check out a map you’ll see you are close to the ferry building as well as market Street. They have excellent movie is here, artistic type films as well, and the day time price is not too bad at $11.50.

There is construction going on but if you can locate the stairs to go up to flights to the movies it is not bad. There seem to be two sets of stairs and if you take One year will come down on a different street and need to get your sense of direction back.

I enjoyed myself at this theater and brought lunch. There is a Boudin bakery nearby

Assigned seating
Dec 2017
This theater is located on the top floor of the Embarcadero Center. It has a fabulous patio all along the rooftop with fabulous views and beautiful flowers (see pictures). The theater itself has assigned seating… Some of the rooms only have four rows in them. Our theater had 10 rows with 10 chairs in each. We ended up sitting in row D, the fourth row. It was a bit of a strain on our necks to look up. If you can, try to buy your tickets online before you go. By the time we got there, a half hour before the show started, almost all of the seats were sold out. And we were waiting when they unlocked the front doors. We chose to see another movie that started an hour after we got there, in order to get better seats, and still ended up closer to the screen than we wanted to be. There are ticket kiosks with touch screens for you to buy your tickets as you enter… But they do not take cash, so you must go to the desks to the left as you enter, if you don’t want to use your credit card. Service is slow. The hotdogs are reasonable, as is the popcorn. They have buttered popcorn... and kettle popcorn! And you can mix them together, too! They also provide a shaker full of natural yeast to sprinkle on your popcorn, if you would like. I’ve never heard of that before. A very nice customer explained what it was to us. The veggie eggrolls were a disappointment… There are three in the picture, but you only get two. And they were expensive, and did not taste good. All hot foods are cooked one at a time, and brought out to you at the end of the counter. It takes a long time to get your food when they heat it up. Probably took us about a half an hour to stand in line, buy our tickets (with cash), get our food, and find our seats. A young man came in before the movie started to ask us to turn our cell phones off, to point out the exits, and to invite us to enjoy the show. The seats did not recline, but were soft leather. There are steps to go up, to get to each of the theaters, or you can take an elevator.

Great Place to See a Movie
Sep 2017
One of our favorite theaters for movie-going because they show great independent films in comfortable settings. Cocktails available. And some good places for a meal nearby, Transit-friendly. Don't fall asleep in the reclining seats!

Great theater serves beer and wine
Sep 2017 • Solo
A great theater located in safe neighborhood. There are a lot of independent and foreign films or documentaries shown there. The theater also has a wonderful selection of beer and wine to consume during the show.

Best Movie Theater in SF
Mar 2017
We love going to the movies here because of its downtown location, the accompanying bar and the very comfortable seating, so comfortable you might fall asleep! Great movie selection.

Comfy Seating on Loungers!
Jan 2017 • Couples
This was our first experience with “reservations only” cinema and we did enjoy it, both as an experience and for its good movie. The seats recline fully allowing you to stretch out like you would in the Lazy-Boy at home. But the purpose of this is to allow you to look up at the screen to see the movie, and without reclining, you really couldn’t do it too well. The seats are comfortable and extremely plush, but even a Lazy-Boy gets tiring after a while. I found that the neck-craning needed to see the screen and enjoy the movie subtracted a bit from the movie-going experience, especially as we were in the front row which was really too close to the screen to be able to take in the entirety of the images on the screen.
Ou “reservation” consisted of purchasing tickets from the kiosks in the lobby, so the seats available to us were not the best. To really enjoy this experience, get tickets in advance (online, I suppose) and do not take seats in the front row.
