I was in San Francisco recently and had a few hours to kill and decided to take a tour of the city on "Grey Line San Francisco". This was the best city tour I've ever taken (of any city). Our tour guide, LeAnne, was a very pleasant and interesting person with a wealth of information on the history of San Francisco. LeAnne seemed to know ever thing there is to know regarding turn of the century (1900) San Francisco history. During the tour we went through Little Italy and China Town, past City Hall, through Golden Gate Park and the Presidio, with the highlight of the tour being a twenty-thirty minute visit to the Golden Gate Bridge. We also saw, but from a distance, Coit Tower and Lombard street. This was a very interesting and informative tour. Next time you're in San Francisco I highly recommend this tour of the City and be sure to ask for LeAnne, you won't regret it.

Pros - You get a nice overview of the whole city. Good driver/guide Cons - Not what you expect. You don't stop at or get close to most attractions they advertise. It can be cold. After a day of maneuvering our way through the city via city transit, we decided to take this tour as an affordable way to get closer to some of the sights we hadn't seen yet, such as Lombard street and the Golden Gate bridge. The photos of the tour made it seem like you would get close to the locations. Unfortunately the closest we got to Lombard street was a view up the hill several blocks away as the driver slowed down to 20 mph so that we could take a very blurry picture from far away. The pictures on the side of the tour bus made is seem like we would get a lot closer. We did get down to Golden Gate Bridge and were able to stop for some pictures. And the tour guide/driver was friendly and outgoing, sharing all kinds if info about the city. However, the tour was very fast and never stopped for pictures until the Golden Gate. It was also a chilly ride -even in July. Recommend a coat or a fleece (which they sell cheap at the pier) if you go. All in all, we did a much better job navigating the city ourselves the day before with a transit pass. So if you are familiar with public transit and comfortable reading bus schedules, take the city transit. It is very easy to navigate. Otherwise, spend extra for the hop on hop off tours that drop you at key locations. Overall, not really worth the money.

Bought in combo with Aquarium visit. Good 2 hour trip around San Fran with commentary and half hour stop at Golden Gate Bridge. Lovely old cable car converted to motorised vehicle. Good option if the hop-on hop-off isn't your thing or you're challenged for time. Still see all the SF highlights.

We did the grey line holiday city lights tour at night. It was great! I took my elderly mom on the tour - and she had a great time. We rode the double decker bus...she stayed below where is was warm and the kids rode up top with blankets that were provided the the bus tour operators. The seance were beautiful and we didn't have to drive. And the best part...we got coupons for free hot chocolate afterwards. Yummy!
