- JJJC_Family808 contributionsMy favorite beach in HawaiiThere are a lot of beaches in Hawaii. Lots. And quite a few good ones. This one is my favorite. Why? I think it’s the prettiest and most interesting. It’s a long beach with some nice views and some benches to sit on and admire them. And there’s a nice breeze, which can kick up some sand and whack you in the face if you are in the wrong spot. What makes this place special is the prevalence of wind surfers here. We spent maybe an hour watching them go every which way, including up and down ( some guy was like a Zen master getting maybe 30’ – 40’ high and looping back down – I wish I could do that ). It was so much fun to watch that even my walking challenged wife took the long trek to get to the place where the preponderance of them were just to get a closer look. We were mesmerized. We really didn’t want to leave. Then she had to walk back to where we started from and she didn’t complain, even though it wasn’t easy or pain free. It was that good. We liked the neighborhood, too, lots of shops and restaurants – good ones, it looked like. If we went back to Hawaii, we would see if we could get a hotel or apartment nearby and stay a week or more and just relax. That’s the best compliment I can make.Visited December 2022Written 13 December 2022
- amk153 contributionsPretty beach soft sandVery pretty beach. We went early and it was not at all crowded. Soft white sandy beach. Clear water the waves were pretty gentle while we were there. There were people kayaking, using outriggers, and some wind surfing. There were lifeguards and bathhouses. The bathhouses weren't bad while we were there. Parking was fairly easy.Visited December 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 31 December 2022
- RachelGold Coast, Australia437 contributionsMy favourite beach in OahuWow !! This beach is absolutely stunning !! We came here on a weekday mid morning so parking was not a problem. The beach itself has soft white sand and the most beautiful turquoise water. It was really calm, perfect for swimming, and there was not a cloud in the sky. This was my favourite beach in Oahu.Visited January 2023Written 12 January 2023
- Lily TravelGirlMiami Beach, Florida256 contributionsBest beach in OahuThis is our favorite beach in Oahu. Been here in the winter and fall and each time it's excellent. Besides the obviously nice sand and clear warm water, this park has plenty of free parking spaces. Unlike nearby Lanikai Beach where there's limited street parking. There's also plenty of shaded areas to sit under and the facilities aren't as bad as some reviewers say. Loved the soft sand and wide long stretches of beach. Can't wait to come back soon.Visited August 2022Written 14 January 2023
- etangHouston, Texas22 contributionsGreat uncrowded beachBeautiful uncrowded beach with rock free sand. It’s a very long beach that’s perfect for hiking. No big waves for surfing. No rental equipment so bring your own chairs or beach mats. There are bathroom facilities and shower. There were detours due to roadwork so it was a little hard to find. Plenty of parking.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 February 2023
- Y KToronto, Canada360 contributionsNice beachWe took the bus but noted many areas available for parking (beware of construction though and go early). We only spent a small amount of time here as we spent the majority of the day at Lanikai beach (10 min further walk). Kailua is more family friendly and has facilities. It has more shade as well and generally not as busy. Water is calm and sand is very soft. It's a long beach so lots of areas to spread out. For us, we preferred Lanikai. The water and views were unbeatable. Check both out while you're in the area, both beautiful and worth a visit.Visited January 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 4 February 2023
- May_EXLWinnipeg, Canada560 contributionsTriple BTriple B (Big Busy Beach). There were lots of beach/water activities going on when we went. Plenty of parking available on either side of the bridge, however it could get filled quickly so arrive early. We parked in the southeast lot. There’s a Steak House across the street. Kalapawai Market and more food establishments are on the other side of the bridge. It was super windy when we went and we didn’t stay long…but we’ll be back.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 February 2023
- Zoom_GottiHenderson, Nevada1,544 contributionsGreat Beach Experience On East CoastReally nice stretch of beach along Oahu's east side. But this is not a quiet, secluded spot. There're actually three parking lots that pretty much stay on full during peak day times. But locals and visitors alike enjoy it here because of the many recreational opportunities. Swim, surf, kayak, boogie, etc. Restroom facilities, picnic shelters, a small market and a steak house are nearby. If you do kayak, note the Mokulua Islands out at sea about 2 miles. They currently serve as bird sanctuaries and a paddle out is well worth it. Otherwise, if you're on foot, follow the beach south to the boat ramp parking and continue walking on Mokulua Drive a bit. At your first sight of beach through the private residences, take the alley and make your way to Lanakai Beach. No facilities here and no parking, but a truly spectacular spot. If there's road construction going on, access to the beachfront might be a little difficult. So follow the locals along Kalaheo and Lihiwai Roads into Mokulua. If you don't have your own vehicle, the efficient island bus system will get you here though you'll need to walk a bit. Take Kamahele street through to the beach or opt on the way for the Pillbox trail.Visited March 2023Written 29 April 2023

Beautiful area in the green East side of Oahu. Nice drive to get here from Honolulu taking H3 or 61 over the mountains or taking 72 around the south side of the Island.

The views were breathtaking and as pretty as a postcard. We went during the week when the kids were in school so parking was a snap. The sky and the sea were a deep blue and the sand was snow white. As pretty as a picture.

My favorite beach on the island. The sand was so soft and almost white, the ocean a light teal. Tons of parking, sprawling so didn’t feel crowded. Loved it!

A gorgeous beach with golden sand and palm trees. Water has the color of emerald. This is a beach you must not miss if you come to Oahu.

We parked our car here and walked to Lanikai Beach. The scenery looked every similar, but there weren't many people there. We stayed in Lanikai Beach for two hours.

I came back here after more than 20 years. It’s was on Sunday and was so crowded comparing with my first time when I enjoyed walking on the beach for couples of hours
It was so windy last week so I didn’t go into the water, just enjoyed the color of the sea and the sky

I won’t have a rental car, can I take The Bus from Waikiki to Kailua Beach?
Is it ok to hitch hike?

The public transport system in Oahu is awesome. Definitely can make it there. I think its about a hour or 2 on the bus. Hitch hiking sounds like the bad start to a horror movie.

Are there any stores nearby where you can rent an umbrella and chairs?

I wouldn't count on it. The only facilities are the restrooms; for anything else you would have to search around in Kailua. There are probably stores where you can buy those items but I did not see anywhere where they could be rented.

Hey, can you go swimming, surfing and snorkelling here? X

Yes you ‘can’ do all of the above. But the only surfing to be done is off of flat island 1/4 mile off of the beach. Snorkeling is better at other beaches, sharks cove and electric beach are a couple good ones. Swimming is decent, the ocean floor is rocky but not brutal like some reefy beaches.
