About
The "Morning Oceanfront Trail Ride" begins at the Mendes Ranch Corral and will take you down the edge of the scenic valley to the coastline where you will have an opportunity to view the magnificent waters of the Pacific Ocean before heading back up to the corral. At the coastline, our trail guides will take photos of you with the majestic seascape in the background. RIDE LENGTH: 1.5 hours CHECK-IN: 8:45 am (Departs at 9:00 am) We take the safety of our riders and horses very seriously and will therefore strictly enforce our weight limit of 230#. Due to our terrain of going up & down the mountain, if the horse slips, we face serious injury to both. If you show up on sight with questionable weight, we will take you to the scale. No refund will be available if you are denied as we are booked to capacity and could have sold your space. Please respect our animals, be honest, and we look forward to meeting you at the ranch! * Closed toe shoes are required for this ride *

The ranch is on a more remote side of the island which was very nice. The ranch is large and the horses were well kept and behaved. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and we would use them again.

We had a great time! Max was our guide. He was thoughtful and informative.
There are beautiful views all over Maui but there’s something special about checking out the sites on horseback.
Thanks for a special experience

Our ride was cancelled due to "weather". It was not raining on our part of the island, so we were disappointed that we were cancelled. They cancelled in the early a.m. but our ride was not until midday. We did not have rain all day where we were, but it could have been raining elsewhere. We were refunded very quickly.

What a horrible experience! Beware of booking with Trip Advisor! We booked our horseback riding at Mendes Ranch on Maui for our 20th wedding anniversary. Got charged, and a confirmation number from Trip Advisor. After being excited and driving an hour to the ranch, Mendes said they had no record of our reservation, and called Trip Advisor. Apparently trip advisor had canceled our reservation, and not contacted us. The Mendes representative said that they have been having this problem with Trip Advisor, but didn’t seem that concerned and told us to leave because they didn’t have room for us. We had a ruined anniversary and wasted 2 hours of driving! Never again!

When booking there wasn’t anything that indicated someone over 230 lbs wouldn’t be allowed to ride. My husband is a professional baseball player and has muscle so weighs in at 240. This company sent a text at 5pm the day before stating there is a mandated weigh in - which was after their 24 hour cancellation policy. We called and were told because it was in the “additional information” section (again not apart of the booking), that it’s our fault and we still had to pay $370. They said they would look to fill the spot and call us back. Days later and still haven’t heard from them.
I grew up with horses, and my husband and I have done plenty of trail rides. This was by far the worst experience we’ve had with any horse related company. For horse friends - I’ve taught my husband how to post so he doesn’t put all his weight on the horse.
Can’t believe the way they went about all of this, and basically are just stealing from people while on our vacations.

Staff was extremely friendly and funny. We were treated like we were home and comfortable. Beginer instructions were delivered in a funny yet informative way. Lots of animals to see before you even ride. Snacks, beverages, and bathrooms were a nice surprise. Would reccommend this to beginners and advanced riders alike.

Wonderful day for a ride! Yes, you get to gallop if you are so inclined. It was a short gallop but for a trail ride this is a rare experience and one I always am looking for. Staff and trial guides are wonderful, views are stunning. and I have to point out that in all my years of going on these trail rides all over the world this is the first one that gave a little instruction about how to sit, steer and be in command of your horse! Beginners would really benefit from this. Thank you, Chase and Jordan, we had a great time.

Stunning views! Chase and Creighton were both knowledgeable, friendly and fun guides. It was a small group so you got to talk with the people in the group. We saw whales breaching almost the entire ride. I loved the free range animals at the ranch. I would definitely recommend this ride. Having been a horse person all my life, and doing a ride wherever we travel, I’ve never been on one where they let you canter or trot. So this was especially wonderful because I got to do both. Kudos to these guys. They do a fantastic job.

Coming in March...Curious if the lunch is offered with both morning and afternoon rides and which is a better option? Like for the afternoon ride...is the lunch prior to the ride or after? Morning ride I do realize if there is a lunch, it would be after. Thank you.

The last response is correct. Lunch after the morning and before the afternoon ride. Actually, lunch is served at the same time, so morning and afternoon riders can mingle. If you are afternoon rider, you need to think about the helmets. Same ones that are used in the morning. Head scarf, hat, or your own is recommended (a can of Lysol doesn't seem to do the trick)

Can my 13 year old granddaughter ride with a tour without me going as well?

Yes. There are 2 guides with the group and tell them to pay attention to your grandaughter and they will. There was an 8 yr old in our group. The horses are gentle. If she does not want to gallop, tell the guide as there are 2 areas that the horses gallop, but you don't have to.
