If you want to keep the kids busy when on vacation in Maui, this lush, spacious park and beach is a godsend for you. There are basketball courts, roller hockey or ball hockey rink, tennis courts, clean restrooms, skatepark, large grassy, shaded lawn areas close to all amenities. The restaurants and pubs across the street are awesome with mid-range prices and good value meals. There are surf shops across the road to rent surfing / boarding gear for the day. A lot of economical accommodations line this road in Kihei. for the budget minded traveller. Great public park in a laid back atmosphere with an uncrowded beach on the north end.

Lovely park to take a stroll at sunset. Surprised to see such amazing amenities for kids (skate park and skateboard park right next to the ocean!). Great sense of community & family.

Really like this beach more than most because besides have a long and deep sand covered beach above that area is a nice flat green area with some lava rock in the area....great variety here.

Maui Inline Hockey Association sponsors free skate nights at the outdoor skating rink: Wed, 6-8 pm; Fri & Sat, 6-9 pm. Nice rink in good condition with some bleachers that makes viewing easy.

$5 skate rental that goes to support the association. Brought our own inline skates so I can’t comment on conditions of rental skates. Skating is free. Some food concessions. Bathrooms not at rink, but nearby. Lots of parking available in lot, probably because people leave after sunset.

I visited on a December evening, many local families and teens out skating, but not crazy number where it was crowded. Temperature was great with pleasant breeze.

Bonus was my 4 yo was skating on his own and having a blast. He was not feeling the love for skating the last two times I brought him to the Old Kona Airport Skating Rink. I think it had to do with the cooler temperature and there were many other kids that were skating too.

Kudos to Mau’i and inline hockey association for making their rink available and open to general public. Will certainly bring my skates in the future.

Great playground here for small kids. We have been here several times. Great soft rubber ground for kids to play on. Slides, swings, jungle gym, etc. Across the street there are several great places to get some food at and have a picnic and watch the kids play. Horhitos truck is across the street for great shrimp tacos.

On the day we went to Kalama Park, it was midday of midweek which might have explained why there was not many people visiting the park. The park itself is a nice quiet place to just enjoy a walk. We walked the paved pathway along the coastline and noticed a couple of local men fishing and their company was picnicking and singing along their own Hawaiian music. We got a pleasant surprise when a pair of green sea turtles surfaced from their swim. They were huge! We were thrilled to have seen them so that was a plus.

Kalama Park is more of an oceanfront park rather than a true beach. About 95% of the park has no sandy beach and is lined with boulders instead. Great for fishing, not for swimming.

It's a spacious area that stretches for about 4 blocks and sports lighted tennis & basketball courts and ball fields, an outdoor skating rink, a skateboard park, playground, covered pavilions, restrooms, showers, and an oceanfront jogging sidewalk from end to end. There are lots of areas to picnic and still have a little privacy. Parking is paved and adequate. A ton of restaurants, markets and shops are just across the street.

Patrons can be a little shady especially in the pavilions. Cleanliness is not the greatest.

Saw my first green flash here a few years ago, awesome. Great for sunset walk, then grab some drinks across the street.

If you’ve come to see the beauty and wonder of Maui, I strongly recommend you avoid this area. It’s congested, dirty, run-down, and crawling with police who have a mandate from the mayor to harass tourist walking along the sidewalks with members of their family unmasked. When asked why they write immediate citations instead of issuing warnings, the answer I heard was “we’re doing our job.” The same answer Hitler’s men gave when questioned after the war. There are so many better paces on the island to enjoy in peace, and away from aggressive hassling of tourists. Try Lahaina, or Ka’anapali. Avoid all of the Kihei area indefinitely!

We found this park as my 2 young kids were asking for a playground. Unfortunately the jungle gym has been take down, but the swings are still available. The trees are also great for climbing, and there’s the beach nearby too. Restrooms didn’t have soap, despite signs saying to wash hands for 20 seconds. Hopefully the jungle gym is replaced, as it’s in a great location in Kihei.
