Pretty drive along the river
Sep 2020
We drove through the park which was much bigger than we expected it to be. Looks like it would be a good spot for small or large groups to gather for a day trip or picnic. Garbage receptacles and port a potties on site. Plenty of parking.

Free Adventure! Wonderful Place for a Picnic
Feb 2020 • Couples
We went in winter but it was worth it! This is a free park that you can drive through and there’s plenty of places to stop and take photos. There’s also pavilions and areas where you could stop and have picnics. I really enjoyed being able to get such fabulous photos of the river and the city!

An Average Riverfront Park
Aug 2019
Drove through the park. Not much here except a fairly good view of La Crosse across the river. Probably floods out anytime there is a flood.

If it ain't under water, fantastic city rosource
Aug 2019
Picnicking, weddings, fishing, beach, river views of the city, Mississippi river recreational and commercial (barge) traffic, kayaking: this is a great community source. Spring Mississippi River flooding has curtailed the seasons recently, especially in 2019, but the city responds excellently to the flooded mess and gets the park back in shape as quickly as it can, clearly understanding the high demand for park use. Dead and dying trees have been consistently removed the park over the last couple of years, making the walkways and general use much more safe. And if you need a meal during the late spring, summer and autumn, the Pettibone Yacht Club restaurant offers a good menu, helpful staff and a lovely view of the river and its boating users. It's a great La Crosse area recreational resource.

Nice Place For A Stroll
Sep 2018 • Solo
I've been here several times. It's located next to the swimming beach opened in the summer. Mosquitos can get horrible in warm months. I've seen a few varieties of mosquitos I've never seen elsewhere. On a nice day great place to go for a walk then watch boats go by on the river. Lots of people fishing. Lots of older people walking around in the morning.

Very nice park- confusing one way roads though.

We tried to catch sunrise from here- it is not the best place with all the buildings on the opposite shore, but the park was still a treasure. It is a large peaceful area with lots of places for reflecting and a great place for a walk.

No dogs allowed
Aug 2018 • Friends
This beach does not allow dogs, but there are no signs posted to tell you otherwise and also nothing on the park and rec website. There is an extremely rude beach goer who will literally chase you down, scream at you about a city ordinance apparently all visitors are supposed to be aware of and then accuse you of having alcohol in your water bottle. This happened on the far right side of the beach where there were no people and the dog was well behaved on a leash.

Park and Rec department of La Crosse...please put up signs about not allowing dogs on your beaches. This will prevent other visitors from being ridiculed.

much more quiet
Aug 2018 • Couples
Take the big blue bridge across the river, to take in this larger and quieter park. It is located straight across from riverside park. Because of the extreme flooding that happens at least once a year, this is my guess why there is no picnic tables and grilling spots.
There is also a bathhouse and swimming spot.

Nice swimming beach, beautiful old Gazebo
Jul 2018 • Couples
The park for the most part is a great natural area. We toured it on segways, a great way to avoid the misquitos. My favorite part the the large, old Gazebo. If you don't have time to walk through it, take a drive out to the Gazebo at least.

Beautiful location

We attended a wedding reception here in the banquet hall. Very nice - right on the river. I would recommend this spot for any medium sized function.
