Car persons must visit!
May 2021
I have been to Elmers 3 times now and still enjoy all the cars/trucks and toys ! This year they started a tour of the old cars in the salvage yard (separate from Elmers Toy Museum) which was fun to do. The views are spectacular and the people are great !

This place is amazing. The owner and collector unfortunately passed away last year, but his wife and children still run the museum. It is located on a hill overlooking the water and has numerous collections of cars, car toys, antiques, you name it, he's got it! You can't take pictures inside of the buildings which was disappointing but it was enjoyable just walking through each building in awe of how someone could have collected so much in their lifetime. This is a must do for anyone visiting the area.

Super bad, mean owner
Aug 2020 • Family
Drove an hour with children (2yo and 11yo and two teens) in order to meet a mean owner who said they are closed. When I asked my older son if I should approach her again (let us just walk around), my son said "no, she will come out with a gun". Super said. One hour of driving! Children are frustrated.

WOW

This place is amazing! We spent hours enjoying and rekindling memories. As we drove out in the sticks to find it, we wondered if we were getting lost. Then There it was. We found so many toys we played with as kids, models of cars we owned, our parents owned, their parents owned, and models I never knew existed. Elmers family do a good job of keeping the traffic flowing. Everyone must check out the beautiful lake view and the Model T with the doll collection. This is a must see stop!

A one of a kind museum. Breathtaking views of the Mississippi. Unique collection of toys and cars that is probably the best of it's kind in the world. Only open on weekends, so I do not understand the one negative review. Give yourself a lot of time to explore all the buildings. Be sure to check their website for the weekends that they are open.

UNBELIEVABLE

How could one couple amass such a huge----and high quality----collection of fun things in a lifetime? A fabulous collection of the most desirable cars from the 50s & 60s and the Mother Lode of peddle cars. But the toys were the high point for me. Cast iron, tin, plastic, wood, you name it------Elmer found and saved it. Word has it that there are over 40,000 toys there !!!!!!!!!

Terrible hours.
People have to take off work in order to go here.
Would get a lot more business if they were open weekends.

Sort of a hidden gem, our 2nd time here.

This car and toy museum is a not very well known place as it is located off the main highway near Fountain City, and on a dead end road up on top of the bluff. However, I have brought friends here twice now, most recently Labor Day weekend, 2019. The claim is that this location is the highest point along the Mississippi River. It is a awesome view from here, but I wonder if Buena Vista Park near Alma, Wisconsin is not higher.
Elmer's also has a salvage yard business, which is evident by junk vehicles all around the museum including in the farm's yard and nearby woods. Cars, trucks are everywhere and rival in number to the ones kept inside the buildings. As for toys, there are not only many hundreds but 3 and 4 of each in some cases. Toy pedal cars may be the largest collection, at least it is the largest collection I have ever seen. Curiously, photos or video taping are not allowed in any of the buildings. I'm not sure why. Most museums of all types allow photography without flash which is reasonable. Actually, photos would enhance business. I must remark here that all photos I include with this review do not violate the rules. I only took photos outside or where there are no signs prohibiting it. I would hope that the vehicles here would get driven sometime, but they are so crammed into the buildings that I doubt they ever do. I am sure they are deteriorating from sitting. I love old cars and hate to see them like that. Great collection both in the buildings and in the salvage yard.

Beyond expectations

This place has been on my to visit list for years and finally made it with our classic car group on tour. This man has been collecting since he was 12 years old and continues to expand his collection. The cars are amazing, some quite rare, but the pedal car collection is huge and varied in type, sze and with volumes estimated to exceed 700. Rare model cars and tractors and unusual figurines etc are in 6 buildings
