Great and splendid botanic garden. The mild climate at the Lago Maggiore allows subtropical plants to grow here. The mild climate of course also attracts Swiss from the North that try to extend their summer into the fall. We took a boat from Ascona that stopped...More

To get to the island and its botanical gardens, one has to take a boat either from Locarno (our option) or Ascona. The ride itself is very pleasant and interesting, providing another perspective on this lovely area. Our tour group had a local guide in...More

On a boiling hot day what better than a boat trip to this lovely floral garden to wander in. There’s a tea room with a limited selection of cakes and excellent toilet facilities. Worth going.

I think we went there a little to early in the year. Had great weather, smooth water and comfortable boat. You can walk about a mile and a half on paths. The flora is very varied, but only about 5% in bloom in May.

For anyone interested in plants: reserve more than 1-2 hours, and make it a day trip. The boat ride just from e.g. Brissago and back is quite expensive on its own, as you end up buying a day pass for the upper part of Lago...More

This island and its little sister are a short ferry ride from Ascona. There is a small admission fee (~$10US). A wide variety of plants, trees and flowers surround a former mansion on the main island. If you like gardens/horticulture, you will enjoy spending hours...More

Yes there is a small entry fee. I don't recall the amount, so it must not have been a stunner. Maybe in the range of 10-15 Swiss francs??
