In the heart of Ponferrada is located the nice Plaza Ayuntamiento, here we find the city-hall, a large square with benchs , for locals walks in the evening, some cafes, and restaurant, and also a nice clocktower.
You could pass through this without realising it's the main square. The only noteworthy item is the statue of the biscuit maker and we needed to ask at Tourist Information to discover what it was. Apparently now deceased.
Most central plazas in Spain are more lively and more lovely. This plaza is just a bit sterile. In terms of a nice "feel" you are much better walking a short distance toward the castle and visiting the cathedral square.
