We had big expectations of both the spaces (Foundation and Tobacco drying halls). Burri was a surprise and at the start we enjoyed the discovery of an artist we didn't know.
But after a while it get's too much of the same what doesn't do good for the artist. I can understand he is one of Italy's most important contemporary artists, but the accumulation of works with the same artistic idiom get's boring.
To say that the tobacco drying halls are impressive.

There are two spaces that comprise this museum: one is in a former tobacco-drying warehouse (an easy walk from the centre of town), the scale of which is beyond enormous. This is where his later work is exhibited, along with his graphics. The earlier work is in a Palazzo right on one of the town squares.
I had known Burri’s name but wasn’t familiar with the work. He was a medical doctor who spent 2 years during WW II in Texas as a POW, which is where he started to paint. When he came back to Italy he gave up medicine and became an artist full time.
I found the work to be strong, powerful, and elegant. Seeing it in that space (the warehouse) was revelatory. I think some of the black paintings would hold their own against Rothko, and his graphics are superb. If you are at all interested in 20th C Italian art, don’t miss this.

There are two fabulous Alberto Burri museums in Citta di Castello. His earlier works are displayed in the Palazzo Albizzini and his later works in Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco, and industrial complex originally used to dry tobacco.
The Burri collection warrants a day's visit.

Saw the ads at Perugia Airport, so decided to go to visit. The ex-Seccatoi is a stupendous space, kind of like the Tate Modern's Turbine Hall, only 5 times over. Great for showing Burri's work. Ashamed to say I'd not heard of him, but feeling much better informed now, especially after seeing his work in the context of his contemporaries and those he inspired and was inspired by.
Must go home and try my blowtorch on some clingfilm

we went to visit seccatoi del tabacco thinking to meet the artistic corpus of alberto burri. that was, the big artworks are really beautiful and it's possible to meet burri's philosophy very easily. but we didn't expecy the exhibition about space and matter between europe and usa. well organized and rich of painters from the same era of burri. jolly good!

We went to Citta di Castello to see the Burri Collection. My companion is a native Italian speaker from northern Italy, and he asked (in Italian) 4 different Citta' di Castello residents how to get there (it is not within the walled city). When we finally arrived, there was a sign (only in Italian) that said that the Burri Collection would be closed from January 2016 until September 2016. Apparently the residents of Citta di Castello do not know that the place is closed for most of 2016.

Alberto Burri is one of the stars of Castello. This place shows a huge range of his work but is freezing cold in winter. Be aware that at the moment it is closed for renovation. Look out for the re opening. It's a great place to take children and has a small range of good publications.
