Love the wine! The atmosphere is really laid back, and not super fancy. If you’re looking for an upscale experience this isn’t going to be the place for you, but if you’re seeking good wine, people, and entertainment, GRV is the place to be! They have food and allow dogs inside. I can’t wait to go back!

I will say that we were pleasantly surprised at this winery. The outside looks pretty basic. But when we walked in there were faery lights across the ceiling and it just seemed like a fun place to be. Everyone was very friendly.
Started with GRV white which was little sweet and nice. My friend really liked the viognier. The GRV red had a great nose but not much taste. Westmoreland blend was OK but not to my taste. My friend liked it more than I. The Petit Verdot was not as strong as I like. My friend also liked the Generals Reserve. I liked it as well. And finally the port style. It was actually very smooth and a little sweet.
My friend ended up buying 3 different wines and I bought the port-style one.

It’s been probably a decade since we were last here, so we needed to check this winery out again. We stopped in as they were having their annual Wine and Oyster event. The wines we tried were very good. The value of the food available was also good. We really wanted to enjoy this all outside, except it was really windy. Inside it was really cold. That was the only turn off, that it was colder inside, than outside.

We visited this winery on the way around several others in the area. Unfortunately, the appearance of the outside and inside of the tasting room had much to be desired. It resembled a bad cowboy / karaoke bar with a creepy bathroom through the maze in the basement and odd smell. The cowboy music didn't help it any. With the flight, the wines lacked any depth and there was no finish to them. Of the 6 chosen, we only ended up only drinking 2 - the Pinot Grigio and Merlot. The rest we took 1 sip and left them be. A previous review mentions how fantastic the Petit Verdot was. We've sampled PV from no fewer than 30 Virginia wineries and this was the least drinkable of them all. I know everyone has different tastes, but for us, this was the least favorite winery on the Northern Neck.

Don’t miss out on The Best tasting and selection of wines around! Awesome customer service, they can answer any question and relate to the customer visiting the area or local. The environment is friendly, has great AC, along with a few board games and darts and local music sometimes. They have a lovely smaller outdoor seating area as well with tents and tables. You can bring in snacks and order some too and sometimes they have a food truck and I’ll add we had great crab cake there! The flights are normal priced for tastings and you won’t be disappointed. Please join me in loving this place as must as I do!

Since our last review we have become wine club members. We love the Petit Verdot and consider it the best red wine in the Northern Neck. When you get the chance to go to General's Ridge try the Petit Verdot,

We've been visiting General's Ridge for years, and the wine keeps getting better and better. Not only do they have great wine, but they offer specials throughout the year - like Sangria Saturdays and Mimosa Sundays. They also have food for purchase, and a large tasting room to enjoy it in. There's a deck area and a patio area for nice weather, too. General's is a must-do when in the Northern Neck!

We had a girls day and stopped at General’s Ridge winery. I’m so glad we did because the GRV red is now my favorite red wine from the Northern Neck! We live nearby so I stock up as often as possible. Our Maryland friends love it too, so I get to share! It’s an all around great Red.
We’ve never stayed at the house but it looks like a really great getaway, especially for people looking to escape from the city life!

Nice drive up to the tasting room through the vineyard. Cool tasting table made from doors of the mansion. Good selection and reasonably priced. Enjoyed the sparkling wine the best.
