Stopped by for a tasting. It was an average winery for Virginia. Some wines were OK, others not much. The 5 wine tasting was over within 10 or 15 minutes and we were onto the next.

This winery was truly a beautifully tranquil setting. With the nice weather, I could happily have sat there all day. However, upon arriving, there were 3 people sitting behind the outside bar, but apparently only one actually served people (so what are the other two doing besides staring at people who arrive? They didn't even greet us). We were happy to get wine flights, since tastings aren't currently allowed. However, we were not overly impressed with any of their wines. That's totally subjective though, so don't take my word for it. After we had been there a little while, a gentleman arrived, who seemed to be a regular, as the server seemed to know him. They then proceeded to whisper while nodding toward us (we were the only other people still there - the party there when we arrived had left). That's just rude in my opinion. Overall, it was a mediocre experience and I know there are some amazing wineries in Virginia, so I can check that one off the list. Been there. Done that. Probably won't go back.

I've stayed at the Cottage at the Hague Winery on three different occasions during the past year and each time it has been "just what the doctor ordered" in terms of relaxation and rejunivation of body, soul and spirit!! Strongly recommend staying at the Cottage where one can experience what it was like to live in the area over 100 years ago. Modern upgrades make this retreat a must for anyone who just want to get away from it all while taking in the remarkable pre-Revolutionary War history and the equally rich Civil War-era history.

Totally delightful and enjoy the wines. They have some creative varieties. Wine is such an individual taste but we almost always find something to bring home. Time is allowed to discuss the wines and lean something new about the art of owning a winery.

You drive up on the back side of the barn but they have a very nice addition on the south side with lots of windows and an outdoor patio, We visited on a quiet cool fall day and really enjoyed talking to the owner - very knowledgeable and honest. Wines were very good and reasonably priced by VA standards. Highly recommended

Driving up one would not assume the tasting would be on a room attached to a barn but it is! It was a chilly windy day, so the patio was not yet opened but it looked so cool and had a great view. The hostess made us feel right at home as we were the only ones tasting and told the story of the Hague and the logo on all the bottles. It had a great feel and the wines were very good. I want to come back in the summer and sit out on the patio for a bottle and the view!

My husband and I are traveling the Northern Neck...a place neither of us has visited! (We live in Richmond, Va) We stopped at the Hague Winery because of Trip Advisor reviews! DEFINITELY worth the stop! The scenery is beautiful! I was hoping to meet Barbara from NJ after reading some of the reviews. She did not disappoint! Very knowledgeable about the wines we tasted and the farm itself! We left with 3 bottles! I asked how we could get more when we wanted it and she gave me her business card and offered to bring it with her when she visits her grandson in Mechanicsville, which is near our home! I absolutely recommend a stop here...hopefully you get to meet Barbara too! 😉

As part of our annual winetasting tour, we visited The Hague Winery. After an outstanding presentation by the owner, we tasted six different wines - all were excellent. This will go on our list as a "Must Stop" when we are in the area.

On a hot Friday afternoon we ventured out to this winery from our river house rental, using the Virginia Wine Guide map. We chose The Hague Winery because it was the highest TripAdvisor-rated in the area, so the first on our list of a couple we planned to visit. Parking lot was deserted so we expected to be greeted as welcome guests on a slow, hot day. We were not "greeted" at all, rather questioned about where we came from. When we answered that we were renting a house down the road, our grumpy old inquisitor advised, "That is up the road". He went on to quickly advise that if our tastes didn't lean toward "dry", then his winery was not for us. This was his behavior toward our son and daughter-in-law, as they entered the small, rather dark tasting room. We think it had lights but our grumpy host didn't bother to turn them on. Don't think he wanted to encourage us to stay. My husband and I approached the tasting bar just as Mr, Grumpy was announcing, "That's what we have and that's how we do it". We had missed his intro and we wanted to pay for our children's tasting together with our own. So, I interjected, "excuse me, would you tell us again how you do it, please." Mr. Grumpy responded, "We pour the wine in your glass, you drink it and decide if you like it". Looking directly in his face, I expected him to wink or smile or indicate he was kidding. He was condescendingly dead serious! Our thirteen year old, well behaved grandson was present so I held my temper. I eyed my husband and he agreed with our "connection" and politely told Mr. Grumpy we were going to go back down the road; or was it "up the road"?😉 By the way, we went on to a lovely and gracious nearby vineyard, General's Ridge, and thoroughly enjoyed the tasting, the wine and the hosts. We also purchased half a case of their very good wine.
Hope Mr. Grumpy feels better by now. This was the second Friday in August 2016.

This winery had the best tasting wines of the wineries we visited on this trip. But the most delightful part of visiting the Hague is Barbara, who conducts the tastings. She is a transplant from New Jersey, and has adapted well to country life in Virginia. She is very knowledgeable about the wines produced at the Hague, and makes a tasting a fun experience. The property itself is attractive, and there is a house there that is available for weekend or weeklong rentals, which we are considering for the future. A small patio outdoors is good for buying a chilled bottle of wine and enjoying it on the premises on a nice day. There are also a few seats to sit inside in chilly weather. We have visited this winery several times, and always look forward to seeing Barbara and tasting the latest wine offerings.
