Terlingua. Dusty, friendly, and mountains galore !
Nov 2021
Yes, Terlingua is a ghost town, but it is full of fun things to do for the living, with places to eat, explore, and relax. Visit the old cemetery first. It's free and around sunset it look the best in photos. Since we visited in November, there were a few white altars to the honor the dead with photos of loved ones. We liked the cowboy/ hippie atmosphere too. You can't miss it going out of Big Bend. Just turn left on 170 and you're in one of the most exotic places in Texas, and the world.

Visiting the general store, the Starlite theatre restaurant and the Terlingua historic cemetery were highlights of our trip to Big Bend.

Interesting Look into the Past
Jan 2021
Interesting place to explore if you're not hiking the trails in Big Bend. Ruins of the old mining town include a quirky cemetery, hotel, jail and even a closed mine shaft. It's an easy walk and gives us some insight into the area's past.

Ruins, a cemetery and an old general store, now a souvenir shop.
Apr 2021
There is a general store there with souvenirs and a cemetery. There is a small picnic area across from the store and there are public restrooms by the old jail. The amazing thing about the area is the number of abandoned little rock houses where the miners lived that are now only crumbling ruins. There are hundreds of these small dwelling places. When the cinnabar mine closed in 1944, there was no more need for all the workers so they just left.

Not much to see
Apr 2021 • Couples
The “ghost town” is really just a marketing ploy to get more folks to go to the downtown gift shop.

Really nothing much here. Couple old broken down fort buildings, cemetery, and a gift shop.

Unique, Quirky, Must see!
Jan 2021 • Couples
The Ghost Town is a very Unique place that carries a certain ambiance. For those of us that love it, it’s hard to explain. You have to go and experience it for yourself. I for one love it there, I go at least twice a year. However I can see it not being for everyone. There’s not a bunch to do. But what there is to do is awesome! That’s the only reason I don’t give it a 5. Go to the gift shop, get you a beer and hang out on the porch while you wait for the Starlight Theatre to open. Have some dinner and take in that Mystical West Texas setting. Can’t go wrong!

What Ghost Town?
Feb 2020
We had heard so much about this Ghost Town that it didn't make sense to go to Terlingua and not check it out. We followed the signs and came to a big sign that said welcome to the ghost town. We looked around but all we saw was some restaurants and mobile home type structures. We thought (wrong) that the ghost town couldn't be just that and proceeded to drive up a very rough road up a hill - all the while expecting a ghost town to emerge. After hitting several rough patches in a sedan (everyone else had pickups), we turned around and drove back down. We did stop at the Starlight Theatre for dinner though, great place!
