About
The Rocky Top Wine Trail, Tennessee’s first and most visited wine trail, was established in 2008 when the opening of a third winery in the area opened up the possibility of three local wineries cooperating together. The Wine Trail has only grown from there, and now with five participating wineries throughout Sevierville and Pigeon Forge, guests are able to sample from over 70 unique, award-winning wines by the time they’ve completed the Trail! Not only do Trail participants get to enjoy local, handcrafted wine, they get to experience it while reveling in the majestic views of the Great Smoky Mountains, eating at their favorite restaurants (or ours!), shopping at Tanger Five Oaks Outlet Mall, and spending time with friends! Sounds like a grand adventure already, doesn’t it? The principles of the wine trail are simple: Support local farms, provide exceptional quality wine, and offer only the very best southern hospitality to each and every visitor. That’s it!

The ownership and management of this establishment does not know how to treat their employees correctly. They brag on employees leaving because they were so miserable. They treat their current employees with disrespect and I have witnessed two managers or owners (I believe one was named katie) gossiping around the winery and not being professional. Ive talked to others that feel the same way. If you go in there in there frequently, you’ll notice the employees change almost every month. What a coincidence.

My sister and I came to Pigeon Forge to celebrate our birthday. We did the Shots and Glasses tour. It was a nice mix of wine, cidar and moonshine. We had a great time celebrating. Beth our tour guide was super sweet and friendly. Each location we stopped at they were just as friendly and helpful as well. The restaurant that they chose as part of the package was a really good choice. This is by far the best tasting I have been to. Thanks. Sandy from Florida.

This was our second time and we already can’t wait to go again. We enjoyed all locations and way too many wines! We took more than a case which is what we had room for- whoops!
The service was friendly, wines were delicious and locations beautiful. We will see you all again.
Cesar at Mountain Valley was EXCELLENT!
Make sure to check coupon books- we found fun coupons for each stop! It was a blast- the gifts at the 3rd and 5th stop are great too.
We also did the other local wine tour and preferred this one. But no harm in doing both. :-)
Happy trails!

We used the shuttle service to do 3 wine tastings. Our driver, Randy, was fantastic, gave us some history of the area and a quick tour of the wineries before we got o do the tastings. The wine is mostly sweet and fruity, but still a fun experience.

We did 3 winery’s one day and the other 2 another day. Each winery tasting was fun. The best one was $5.00 to taste the full list of wine or cider. The free wine glass & coffee mug are great souvenirs of ALL the fun we had on the trail.

The Rocky Top Wine Trail provides the best value (FREE, cheese tasting, plus 2 gifts) and fun interacting with knowledgeable wine pourers. We learned about this by stopping by the Mountain Valley Winery for a free tasting. At the conclusion of the tasting, Karen gave us the information and explained how it works. Very flexible, because you just take your "passport" to each of the five wineries whenever you want, in any order, even on different days. They stamp the card. At the third winery you receive a gift (ours were wine glasses with the trail's name. At the fifth stop, we received two great ceramic mugs that we use every day. The cheeses are from Sweetwater Valley Farm (different cheese at each stop) and they are for sale. We bought three to take home with us. Karen also gave us a great tip for a visit to Cade's Cove, and an alternate way to get there for different scenery. I would absolutely do this again on a future visit.

If you like wine and want to taste different kinds do the tour. You get to learn about all the different wines in the area and even get a glass at the end.

Has anyone done the Original Rocky Top Wine VIP Tour. Where you ride the bus to 3 different wineries?? I know the price, but do not see anywhere how long the tour is.

Is it worth the money to use the limo service or would an Uber for multiple people be more sufficient?

I agree with the others. There was not a significant amount of wine in the tastings. We chose to drive ourselves.

I've never done a wine tasting of any kind. Do they pressure you to buy so many bottles after your tastings? I dont drink often and would probably only buy one or two bottles total while on the trail.

They don’t pressure you really at all!! My husband and I did the entire trail and only bought 3 bottles total. Everyone who served us was super friendly and not pushy at all. When we were done tasting, if we didn’t buy any we said thank you and left! We had a bit of the same worry but it was great. Definitely recommend!

Is Uber easily available in this area? Other than the limo service are there any other transportation options?

I would suggest the Moonshine 'N Wine tour through Tennessee Mountain Tours. It's around $50 per person (look for coupons!) But you will visit several local wineries and distilleries. We were able to visit 4 of each. During the tour, after we visited our 3rd winery we recieved wine glasses. After ther tour we only had 1 in Gatlinburg to visit and we got our 2nd gift, wine stops. Best of all you will have a great driver who knows her stuff and if you're as lucky as we were you'll end up with a great group and by the 3rd stop everyone is BFF's LOL.

Does anyone know if you can take the trolley to cover the locations on the wine trail?
Va5traveler
Waynesboro, VA678 contributions
I don't think so 2 are in Gatlinburg 2 in Pigeon Forge and 2 in Sevierville we just did the trail around 25 miles between the two farthest stops. If it was possible would require several different trolley changes. They use to list a charter service on their website but don't see it now. We broke up the visits over 3 days so driving not an issue. If you can workout do it. We had a great time doing it and at 3 and 6 wineries nice gifts.

What place do you start to get your passport stamped? Can that place provide the passport or do I need to print myself?

You can start at any of the wineries included in the tour and go in any order that works for you. We've completed it twice now and the wineries already had passports ready to go. Happy (wine) trails!
