Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song. It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers. Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

Sun Studio was the starting place for many singer / songwriters. This tour recounts those musicians, and the radio station that was Sun Studio! The highlight of the tour is being in the recording studio that the Million dollar quartets recorded there sound and songs!...More

Sam Phillips' Sun Studio claims to be the "birthplace of rock'n'roll," a claim that is hard to argue against given Sam and Sun recorded the first use of (accidental) guitar distortion, and went on to record many of the pioneers of Rock'n'Roll - Elvis, Carl...More

We live in Memphis and decided to explore Sun Studio with out of town guests. Our tour guide was great. We learned a lot about the early Memphis music scene. Very entertaining and educational.

We chose this tour from reviews on Trip Advisor and enjoyed the experience. Well worth the price to do. I love the fact that current artists still want to come in and record - an ode to its history. The space is a little cramped...More

As far as I know, making a recording wasn't an option on the tour. You would probably have to reserve the studio at a different time of the day because it is still used by artists to record.
