About
Discover the story of Jersey for free on the ground floor, watch our Story of Jersey film and take in our permanent display Jersey - 100 Objects. There is also a free exhibition in the gallery on the ground floor. There's more to discover at Jersey Museum & Art Gallery (admission prices apply). Explore Jersey's history from 250,000 years ago when the first people arrived in Jersey and continues through the centuries to explore the factors that have shaped this unique Island and the people who live here. Step inside the beautifully restored Victorian House and enter the drama of a Victorian family in crisis. On the evening of 27th August 1869, a momentous decision was taken by the family that lived at No 9 Pier Road. Dr Charles Ginestet persuaded his wife Jeanne that they should abandon their beautiful home and flee to France to start a new life.

Perfect place to start your holiday in Jersey. It gives a real insight into the islands history with a neat touch of a house integrated into the museum and set in the relevant period. I would also highly recommend the courtyard cafe for a perfect lunch.

This is a great place to start your visit to the island. There is a short film which outlines the history of the island then there are the galleries and also the merchants house to wander through. The staff are friendly and very helpful and there is a lovely little shop too. The cafe is also good.

It is two things - the merchant house and the museum - too much for one visit so a good idea to use the Heritage pass for multiple visits.
The Merchant house tells the story of a shipping family - the museum has the history of Jersey.

Great idea to come twice, the beauty of the Heritage Pass is that you can visit four sites for the price of three too!

A good way to learn a bit about Jersey history, you can watch a video (but we didn't) and we enjoyed the enactment (through a mirror - performed in English and French in rotation) of the old inhabitants of the house the museum is in.

Came as realised we had a distant relatives medals here. Great film to start off a quick history of Jersey from neolithic to present day. Very helpful volunteer Sheila? at the front giving us a bit more detail too. The exhibits are wide ranging, including each period as well as a protest section and a merchants House. All very good. Not quite as interactive as the Maritime but good.
