About Old South Carriage Company
See historic Charleston from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers narrated, hour-long carriage tours by licensed guides, day and night. Come to our stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary but recommended as tours frequently sell out. We use French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy equine employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or graze under century-old live oaks. Look for the Red Sash: our symbol of a quality horse-drawn carriage tour of Charleston, South Carolina.

Had a great time, Austin and Garth Brooks ( horse) were awesome ! The kids loved it, aged 3-15. I’m amazed at how well they can navigate through the busy streets and never miss a beat with the story telling .

all over it was good too much info about horses and not much info in history and town by itself. Need improvement. Also too many times she told that tips are appreciated.

Shannon is thee absolute best tour guide we have EVER had on any tour or any travel destination. Her enthusiasm and humor as well as comfort with telling stories was second to none. Horse Rowdy was a gentle horse amd proceed a smooth trip. HIGHLY recommend this trip but ya gotta request Shannon.

We normally love historical tours. We took this tour on the night of arrival hopping to get a good introduction of the city and highlights of areas to visit, with a few ghost stories laced in. However, we mostly got random ghost siting stories. Because it’s only 40 minutes, and apparently we may have been assigned the random fifth route that doesn’t have a lot of points of interest, we were disappointed for the price we paid. We were also seated in the last row and had difficulty hearing the driver at times. We later took a walking history history tour during the day and a walking haunted history tour the next day and loved those.

This tour is a great way to kick off your trip to Charleston. The pick-up location is very convenient to the Charleston City Market. If the weather is too hot, they will cancel tours to protect the horses...very nice! Buddy was an excellent tour guide. Sometimes our tour guide was hard to hear over the noise of the traffic and tourists, but I'm not sure if installing an intercom is a good solution. Might be too much noise considering the number of carriage tour operators in the area.
