Welcome to Wight Cycle Hire. Established in 2005 we are the Island’s Cycle Hire specialists. Start your cycling adventure from either one of our two hire centres. Our Yarmouth Hire Centre, located in the rural West Wight is the perfect starting point for exploring the downs, the beautiful beaches of the South Coast and the iconic Needles. Our Riverside Hire Centre in Newport, located on the Quayside at the heart of the Island’s cycling network, is the best place for exploring the off-road Red Squirrel Trail to Sandown and Shanklin or alternatively you can choose to cycle to Ryde, Cowes or the West Wight. The service that we received from John was outstanding! The bikes were great and this allowed us to cycle many more miles than we could normally have done. We enjoyed doing the Coastal Explorer route on day 1 to The Needles, Freshwater Bay, Military Road and Brighstone. A fantastic day! The weather was not so good on day 2 but we managed a circular tour to Shalfleet, Newtown Creek and Porchfield. We also had a very enjoyable visit to the Hut at Colwell Bay on Sunday night! We all would like to upgrade to an e bike now so it was a great way of trying them out.Hi Mandy, thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a lovely review. The service from Wight Cycle Hire in Yarmouth could not have been better. Excellent communication before our trip, a friendly welcome when we picked up the bikes with everything ready for us when we arrived and really helpful advice (including two suggested detours from the signposted route that improved the experience). - Wessel V11 contributionsWonderful experience at Wight Cycle HireWe were with a group of seven friends, sailors and took a lovely ride on the Isle of Wight. The reception at Wight Cycle Hire was very warm and friendly. We rented four mountain bikes and three E-bikes. We were given helmets , maps and instructions for the road. The bikes were in perfect condition. All in all we had a great experience with Wight Cycle Hire and would happily recommend it to anyone.Thank you very much for leaving us a lovely review. But what I liked the most is their fantastic old Yarmouth Station office, looked so well restored. You can cycle from there to get to Freshwater along the old railway. For usYarmouth tons better and avoids cycling along those narrow windy IOW hilly roads! Suggest you phone in advance to book. Friendly service, £45 pp for the day, extend it by taking coffee at the old station pick up spot. Then delivery cycling oaths down to the coast then west to the Needles. Our most recent visit to the island included a few pre planned walks, however we thought that we might try cycling and contacted the Wight Cycle Hire outlet in Yarmouth. Neither of us had ridden a bicycle for a good many years and we chose this outlet as we knew it gave direct access to the former rail line between Yarmouth and Freshwater which we thought would be a ‘flat’ and protected route in which to ride.
Making our booking by phone prior to our holiday, we found the customer service to be very friendly and helpful too. A days hire (9AM to 5PM), for the bikes came to £18 each and this included cycling helmets and a security chain. For those less energetic or planning to venture further afield, there is an option of an electrically assisted bike, full details are available on the website.
On arrival at Yarmouth, we were given a good briefing and also some local maps with pre prepared suggested routes of differing lengths. Note that there is no parking at the hire centre and we parked in a large (pay & display) car park in Yarmouth which is a short walk away.
Not being experienced cyclist, we chose to spend the day travelling up and down the old track bed between Freshwater and a point just beyond Yarmouth (about 2.5 miles each way) and also made a small diversion across the old bridge to the village of Freshwater itself.
The route itself is basically an earthen path following the route of the River Yar and is shared with other cyclists, walkers and the occasional horse rider as well. Many of the other cyclists and walkers that we passed were family groups presumably with the same idea of a day out as us. There is a café at either end of the path where refreshments may be purchased and it is also worth pausing at the causeway near Freshwater to admire the views and watch the water fowl on the river.
We had a very good day and will certainly consider a return visit when we are next on the island and will certainly recommend to others.

Top marks to John and team for an outstanding operation.
We (family of four, all fairly keen cyclists) hired bikes for the day and were really impressed by the quality and condition of the bikes themselves, and with the communication and administration behind the hire.
John and his colleagues gave us really helpful advice on routes and destinations and we all had a great day heading over to Freshwater Bay, up to the Needles, and down the west coast of the island back towards Yarmouth.
As the website says, if you're driving to Yarmouth to pick up your bikes, park in the public car park and walk the 5 minutes to the (old) station - there's definitely no parking there!

Beautiful setting on a old railway platform. We were given maps that clearly marked quiet and easily navigable routes . E bikes were fantastic, we cycled for 25 miles over 3 hours and the bike showed fully charged until the end. Cycle routes from here include to Freshwater Bay and to a nature reserve. The Wight Hire staff were approachable and informative, answering all our questions. A great family day out.

We hired 8 ebikes for a 3 day IOW trip. We were met on time with a call in advance to check that the rather windy conditions hadn't put us off crossing. They were super helpful and flexible with the baggage, drop off/pick up and instructions. One of the bikes was completely new and developed a fault, they dealt with it without fuss. All the bikes were in great condition and we all had a great experience on a wet and windy weekend. Unlike other places I have hired they are contactable and responsive for the whole weekend. Great choice if you want reliability and a sense of security that if you get stuck they will find you and get you going again.

We had a wonderful family cycle from Yarmouth to Alum Bay. The staff at Wight cycle hire were really friendly and helpful and would certainly recommend to others . We’ll be back on our rerurn visit to the island. Thank you so much.

My girlfriend and I were visiting the Isle of Wight for the day and we wanted to hire bikes instead of spending more time driving. We contacted Wight Cycle Hire on the morning of our arrival and they were so friendly and helpful and said they would put 2 bikes aside for us even though I explained we hadn't booked our ferry crossing yet. "Just let us know if you can't get across" was their response which is so nice of them.
When we arrived to collect our bikes the lady who greeted us couldn't have been nicer and made sure we had everything we needed before we set off. She even provided us with some sun screen lotion as we had not brought our own and it was, for once, a hot July afternoon. As well as the bikes they provided helmets, a lock and a side panier for our bags.
A map was also provided along with knowledgeable details about where some of the best places to visit are.
We enjoyed our half day of exploring on the bikes and if we return to IoW (which we plan to) then we will definitely use Wight Cycle Hire again.

We hired three e-bikes for 2 days and had an amazing time !! They were in no way overpriced and they were brilliant !! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The e-bikes make cycling easy. You can go up a 35• slant effortlessly !! You still peddle but it is assisted. The range on the bikes is brilliant it just doesn’t go down. We cycled 25 miles which was only one bar of off the battery !! I highly recommend hiring one of the 5 e-bikes!!

We hired 6 bikes for 2 days. Wight cycles dropped them off and collected as we were staying in Freshwater. Couldn’t have been happier. The best bikes we’ve ever hired and the friendly service was second to none. I’d definitely recommend and will be going back. Thank you

Excellent service from genuinely nice people. Really accommodating when plans changed a few times. Had 2 ebikes delivered to a family members place while visiting the island that were both excellent quality and well maintained. Really good demo and video as a back up, all equipment needed supplied. Our second time using this company and won’t be our last.

Picked up a standard mountain bike and rode it all over the island for a few days. Great service. All I did was adjust the seat, find a nice bit of near-vertical muck, thick with nettles and nasty thorns and get stuck in. I can’t think of a better way to get around the IoW as a visitor. You can see horsies and cabbages and badgers (hypothetically) and get a bit of well-deserved punishment along the way! Also credit where it’s due to the local drivers, I had zero agro on the road.

I have a small dog who I would like to bring with us. Do you have dog baskets that can be fitted to bikes? Or trailers? Thinking of ebikes or a tandem. Hoping to hire tomorrow.
