Great experience producing great food!

Brilliant day learning about how to make and use spice combinations to produce top quality food. The family were very impressed with the results! Great day and Simon was a really good teacher. Lots of fun and plenty of tips to help me get better cooking with spices.

French half day course
Nov 2021 • Couples
We took part in the half day French Cookery course and it was a brilliant experience. Under Simon’s expert tuition we made bread, bouillabaisse, learnt to bone out and stuff a chicken leg and made a chocolate tart. The three hours were slickly organised and thoroughly enjoyable. We brought all the delicious food we had made home and immediately booked to go back to do the Italian course because we were so impressed.
This isn’t really a suitable experience for total beginner cooks, but all eight of us today were very pleased with our results because the pace and instruction was so good and well thought out. Thoroughly recommend!

Soooo much fun!

Wow! What a most amazing day. This place is a little gem set in the very pretty grounds of Stancliffe Hall. I thought I was a decent cook until I got here! Our tutor and Chef (Masterchef!), Simon was excellent and organised our chaotic family so well. We made afternoon tea including macarons which I was sure would fail as they always do! They turned out absolutely perfect with the masterful guidance of our Chef, as did everything else! The 'school' itself is so well laid out and so clean with all mod cons! Hubs isn't very happy though, since returning home, I want a new kitchen with new appliances. Thank you, Coghlans and special thanks to our tutor Chef Simon for a most enjoyable experience. Can not wait to go again!

Brilliant experience!
Feb 2020
Had a great day making various sweet treats for afternoon tea. Masterchef, Simon, is very knowledgeable, patient and extremely talented, showing us several techniques & offering an insight into the professional world of cooking. I was very impressed with his delivery and even more so with our end results! Would definitely recommend doing one of the many courses on offer, my first time here, but definitely not my last - great fun & informative day out!

Amazing experience!
Feb 2020
Not my experience directly as I purchased a 'cooking with spices' masterclass as a present. The 'feedback' was that it was an incredible day - well organised and expertly led -a 'full-on-hands-on' day with lots of goodies to bring home. My car now smells like an ashram kitchen...

Great Experience
Jan 2020 • Family
Did the half day ‘Classic Dishes made Vegan’ course along with my adult son (there isn’t a suitable category in the review drop down box!).
Very enjoyable and informative with skilled and knowledgable tutor Simon. Included plenty of tips useful in general cooking. Lovely facilities in a great location. Relaxed atmosphere in good company - all the better for being a small group. A very enjoyable session in every respect, and some lovely dishes to take home at the end.
Already looking at Coghlan’s future programme with a return visit in mind. Thanks very much Simon!

If you really want to learn about cookery ?

This is my 4th course with Simon who is a very knowledgeable and extremely patient chef and teacher.

On this course we learnt how to make a pork pie and two other pastries, all of which you take home with you at the end of the day.

The kitchen and equipment is first class, and all set within a beautiful old house just off the A6.

The whole event is very professional, friendly and everything is done to set you at ease, also, you not only get to take the food you make home with you, Simon also provides the written recipes so you can continue to practise at home.

If you have an interest in cooking, I would highly recommend one of the many courses.

Pork pie and pastry

I went to this class with a friend using a groupon voucher which made it very good value. This was he second class I have attended at Coghlans, the first being the artisan bread making, which was also very good.
All equipment and fresh ingredients were supplied. The class was very well organised. Simon gave clear step by step instructions and was very tolerant! We each made 1 large pork pie, 1 small leek, mushroom and cheese pie and 1 tarte aux pommes, the tart was not cooked in the class but the savoury ones were.
The best bit was being able to take home and enjoy the fruits of our labours, yummy. We also brought home a recipe sheet with all 3 recipes to recreate at home.
Thank you Simon.
