We had a fab long weekend on Tana Fjord hosted by the knowledgable and helpful crew at Anderson boats in Middlewich, the boat was very well equipped with all home comforts and absolutely spotless. Lots of cruising options close by, we would highly recommend!

What a fantastic time we had, hosted by the marvellous folk at Andersen, Middlewich. Two of our crew were brand new to narrow boating, and all agreed the trip could not have gone better. We cruised from Middlewich, starting on Friday afternoon after a thorough introduction and handover of the boat. Setting off in the direction of Lymm, although not getting quite as far as that at our halfway point, we experienced two locks, three tunnels, and all the usual mixture of nature and industry, and saw it all again on the way back, arriving Monday morning. The boat was the perfect size (58’ 4 berth for the three of us), and had clearly been well looked after. The canal was moderately busy for the time of year, but it’s always good to great friendly fellow boaters. We could not have had a better time. Andersen are warmly recommended to one and all.

Since our sunshine holiday got cancelled we thought let's do something different, a quick Internet search and we landed at the andersen site chose our boat bergen fjord and off we go. On arrival at the boat yard very early I must admit we where greeted by friendly knowledgeable staff, a quick guide through the workings of the boat and off we go. We asked for a recommend route and chose the route to lymm. Fantastic views and a fantastic boat made the trip superb and we can't wait for our return.

Working from home since mid March to say I was going a little stir crazy was an understatement, so for my partners birthday we decided a break would be ideal, and so right we were. We picked a barge 4 day trip with Andersen Boats - on arrival we piled the spotless boat with our possessions for the week, Just be warned less really is more you really won’t need 7 jumpers 6 t shirts 7 pairs of jeans and a breville toastie maker (ok keep the toastie maker!) but what you will need is: your own bedding, a couple of towels, a sturdy pair of boots and an appetite for a mini adventure! The boat comes equipped with a under counter size fridge with a small freezer compartment (think couple of boxes of fish fingers size) a full size gas cooker with Oven hob and grill, microwave, iron, tv and a hairdryer, it has radiators, a full size shower and chemical toilet and a different view everyday!!!!! But before we get to that and most importantly for us novices due to COVID and social distancing we were given the full rundown of how the boats interns work - heating, water, lighting toilet etc. in a mock up of the boat in the boat shed ; the member of staff we had was patient and we were excited but even I got it (but ask questions if you need to as all staff we came across were nice and approachable) Then adventurers, to the barge; a full tank of fuel and an emergency number written down both sides of the boat! my partner navigated and I did the locks: Our journey north to Lymm took in 2 locks (with a member of staff coming through the first one to show us how) and three tunnels with a quick lesson in how to moor up (it’s a skill, but easy I promise) and our adventure began, This is were words do not really do it justice: navigating the canal at a max of 4 miles an hour (mostly at about 2 for courtesy) and a hot chocolate in hand, this world moves at a slower pace, from the glorious sunsets and sunrises, it’s mysterious mists on the canal, it’s swan fly past wake up calls to it’s colours in its trees changing daily at this time of year; it all really makes it perfect - it’s soup for the soul and really helps you to recharge, your worries really do melt away: the pros for the trip are endless & the cons well... were just not enough days away. Thank you Andersen and the team your trips are amazing, I’d return tomorrow and am hopeful to book a trip again soon

With lockdown forcing my partner to work from home since March, she was reaching the point of needing a different four walls to look at, and a change of scene for a few days. So with only a few days notice we booked a four night break. We arrived around 2pm on Monday having never done more than a day trip on a narrowboat before and returned the boat this morning already wanting to do more! Andersen staff showed us the ropes (literally!) along with everything we needed to know and even accompanied us to the frost lock around 15 mins away. Then we were on our own. Our first night we moored up canal side around 45 mins prior to Anderton, the second night at Stockton Heath, then onto Lymm before turning around and spending the third night just before Anderton and the final night at Big Lock. The barge was very clean and with gas central heating lovely and warm inside for those cold evenings. A good sized fridge, oven, microwave and plenty of crockery also helped. And inside the barge had been beautifully fitted out. Staff were friendly and helpful even when we temporarily got stuck on a sand/mud bank on our first night! As first timers to a multi day canal break we weren't sure what to expect but now we've experienced it, we'd definitely do it again.
