Awesome FREE museum
May 2021 • Couples
This museum was really a great find! It had sooooo much to see! Also there were so many interactive exhibits, but unfortunately due to COVID those exhibits were closed along with the conservatory. You could actually see paleontologists working on fossils while we were there!! According to the staff, “the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in central Raleigh is the largest institution of its kind in the Southeastern United States.” The dinosaurs were my favorites!!

Experience Nature
Apr 2021 • Couples
The NCMNS is an exciting experience. This museum with 7 different sections is the largest of its kind in the Southeast. Most of the dioramas and exhibits are focused on the natural wonders in and around North Carolina. There are escalators, elevators and bridge walkways that make getting around very easy. Covid restrictions have caused some changes like sanitation stations at each floor, one way traffic flow in parts of the museum and the closure of the interactive activities including the butterfly room. Still there is much to see. Tip: On street parking can be challenging during the work week, but there is an excellent parking garage just a block away on West Edenton Street.

Fun museum
Apr 2021 • Family
We had a great time at the museum this weekend. Staff was nice and helpful. Hand sanitizer was throughout the museum which was great. Lots to neat things to see and do. Due to Covid, the number of people allowed in is limited which was actually very nice. We were able to take our time and see everything.

Well done
Jan 2020
This was a great use of a few hours with a small child. There were a number of well-done exhibits, deep sea, dinosaurs, human anatomy, planets. It was free to visit. The exhibits were interesting to me as an adult as well as my 5-year old. Unfortunately, young children do not always keep maintaining a high-level engagement so we only lasted about 2 hours. At periodic intervals, a worker did a science experiment in the atrium, the one that occurred while we were there was based on meteorology and barometric pressure. My daughter loved it.

AMAZING! Best place in Raleigh!
Sep 2020
I have lived in North Carolina my whole life, and Raleigh is one of my favorite places in the world. I have been visiting this museum since I was a kid, and no matter how many times I go, it still is amazing. I recently just went, now as a college student, with a group of friends. None of them had ever been before, and I insisted that they go with me. They were all amazed by the giant globe when we first walked to the entrance, but they were even more excited once we got inside. The dinosaur exhibits are a personal favorite, and it makes you feel like you are being transported back in time. Being an anthropology and paleontology nerd, the museums collection of specimens in their display room was fascinating. The T-rex skeleton is also a favorite. What makes it even better is that it is all free! Not only that, once you finish at this museum, head right across a courtyard to the History museum, which is also free! They have a really cool exhibit for Sports in North Carolina. They also have to-scale Wright Flyers and two Nascars.

Always fascinating exhibits! Great science experience. FREE TOO!

I took my daughter here when she was in elementary school. We went to the science lab and actually did a DNA test! I am sure you can't have a better experience at a museum. History museum is down a block or two
