Lively market in the square. Ringed by restaurants and shops. Note the very old carvings on the wooden corbels (wrong name). Go in the shop to ask more info, just don’t call them the wrong thing as the shop woman is fanatic about them! Stroll to cathedral with one of the largest apses in France.

Look upwards to admire the architecture in the square, the coffee shops are not great I thought the French knew how to make Coffee!!!. Lots of Tourist type shops some better than others. Good for people watching but have a different beverage!

This is a nice place to stroll and look at small shops and places for lunch or dining. You feel back in history and we found it a very cosy place. We recommend to go there.

we went to explore on market day and it was for sure the best market that we went to whilst in the area. The downside of the market was that it was less easy to get a feel for the historic square... The market rambled all around the square and out into he surrounding area. We bought very well priced fruit, veg, saussison, cheese, bread, paella etc. The tourist stalls seemed a little more pricey.

Anyone who comes to Mirepoix really has to visit the square with or without the famous Monday market. The arcades are famous for the wonderful ancient carvings of different faces. They have been well preserved and are a remarkable feature which attracts much attention.
Beneath the arcades, on market day (Monday) you'll find cafe tables and shop goods of all sorts from a great selection of cards and post cards, to sophisticated clothing in abundance to light Summer wear of all sorts as well as vegetables, fruit, jewellery and the regular knife sharpener's stall with its impressive selection of knives and implements of many kinds. It's worth looking into the Mayoral building whose interior is quite a contrast to the external features.
On other days of the week, it is a lovely place to eat and absorb the atmosphere and features of the town. In season, you'll see the carousel which will take you back to simpler times but still appeals to modern children. Our grandchildren insist on a session whatever the weather!
A very pretty Frech Placeor town square which is a pleasure to visit at any time of the year or week.

Too much poor quality retail products not locally made - plastic or downmarket imports. Otherwise, it would be simply delightful.

I guess I am one of the few people not impressed by the central area. I felt the shops were too touristy, just ‘ok’ restaurants and not much of anything to do other than the cathedral. Personally, I would skip this town. When our tour group was there, 2 dogs had a huge fight and police came to capture one. Lots dirty pigeon poo all over.

And boy don't they know about it! Tourist haven but don't ket the plethora of gift shops and restaurants get in the way of the beautiful wooden features of the buildings.
Fantastique!

We watched with great interest as our crepes were made, and sat under the covered area to eat. A rainstorm swooped in and we watched the rain as the little children ran around in the rain in the square laughing and dancing. Then the rain stopped, the sun came out and we finished our crepes in the sunshine. A moment to remember, and the kind of moment that one cannot predict! So glad we came here!
