We arrived just as the faithful were being called to afternoon prayers so were unable to go inside but we were allowed to look in from the doorway.

Attractive and interesting mosque in rather unattractive surroundings. Nice to be welcomed in and shown around.

This trip advertised as a "City Tour" of El Quesir in Egypt must represent the low point of an otherwise excellent short break. We were told that it was about a half hour from hotel to destination: it was an hour. The pick up minibus was 30 mins late. When we arrive for our "City Tour" we arrived in a dusty car park and were given a half hour geography lesson about all of Egypt, drawn in the sand of the derelict car park. We were then taken to a Mosque which was interesting enough but nothing special whereupon we were herded back to our minibus and taken to a Coptic Christian Church; again interesting but nothing out of the ordinary. Then on to what appears to be a mandatory visit to a papyrus factory with the resultant hard sell. At this point my wife and I took ourselves to the adjacent cafe where we experienced the worst coffee ever produced. More cardamon pod than coffee. Eventually as it was getting dark we we taken another few hundred yards and pointed down a street and told to meet back at the drop off point in half an hour for coffee. Some interesting sights as we walked down the street showing a little of how the locals lived, (which is what we were led to believe the tour would be). The coffee was nearly as bad as our earlier one and again was accompanied by a hard sell of tourist tat. Our guide was limited in his knowledge of the area and its history and was unable to answer many of the questions put to him by members of the party. We shared the minibus with some French speakers who had a French speaking guide. Fortunately, my French is adequate enough to pick up the gist of what he was saying , which was far more interesting than the English speaking guide. We eventually arrived back at our marvelous hotel The Steigenberger Coraya Beach at 7.30 PM, having been told we would be back by 6.00.

Very photogenic old mosque next to the new one. Interesting old part of town surrounded by old buildings with traditional carved wooden balconies and near the old wooden fishing boats on the beach.

I visited El quell, sir with a local person who explained everything to me. I had a very good time. Some children approached and I bought them a magnet. there is also a library, which they let us visit at leisure.
