Jardins d’Étretat are neo-futuristic gardens that extend over the cliffs of the Alabaster Coast, one of the wonders of Normandy with a view listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO. The gardens are a playground where lush topiary, landscape architecture, and contemporary art dialogue in all poetry. We enjoyed our visit to the Jardins d'Etretat in October. Contemporary sculptures set amongst visually pleasing trimmed shrubbery makes for a great garden experience.

We parked at city information site in center of the town. We were advised to walk a couple of blocks to the beach and then up the hill to the gardens. I made it but was huffing and puffing (75 yrs old) by the time we got to the top. We could have walked from the info center straight up the hill which would have been a climb but not quite the climb we had. Of course we would have missed the rock arches at either end of the beach at a distance. There is also a little train that will take you up but it wasn't running. You can drive up and drop people off if you have that luxury to be with others.

We drove from Honfleur...maybe an hour's drive.

Parking so bad, expensive and crowded that we had to give up. It would also have been a long walk up hill! Unless you took the expensive ‘train’

I’ve wanted to come here for years and came

I wasn’t bowled over as I thought I maybe but it was still lovely

The gardens are beautiful but need a bit more explanations to fully appreciate

Pricey at 12€ to see various hedges and a couple of sculptures - that said it’s well set out and stunningly clean - is it worth it? Depends on if you have a hedge to shape

We absolutely loved these gardens, Beautifully kept, with whimsical art and sculptures around every corner. Great views too. Also some beautiful flowers. Since we are in our 70s we took the little train to get up there, which worked really well, except no-one knew how often or when it was running! We walked down. We took loads of photos. Spent a few hours there just relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. Memorable day

Beautiful place with it’s own atmosphere. Could have gotten lost there for some time more.
The entrance is 12 eur which is a high price, but when you think of the maintenance necessary, might make sense… the swing is so chilling.

These are unusual and lovely gardens. Unusual in that, certainly in April, there is really only one colour - green. The shrubs/hedges are beautifully manicured and of course the view along the coast past Étretat is stunning. The descriptions and the leaflet are a bit pretentious but that's OK, it's lovely just to walk around and admire the garden.

It's unfortunate that there's no parking as it's quite a climb up from the car parks in the town below. It would be a good idea for the gardens to introduce a minibus service from the car park to the gardens - we have a similar service here for RHS Wisley, to/from the local train station.

Highly recommended.

Stunning garden, I could have spent hours soaking it in. Peaceful and meditative overlooking the needle. Try to catch sunset from the end of the garden, if you’re lucky. Well worth the hike up from Etratat now that they’ve blocked the access road.

12€ entrance fee and quite a small garden. However. The topiary is maintained to a very high standard, and the garden is very atmospheric. I liked the artworks but the explanations were on the whole pretentious drivel. It doesn't take long to walk around. The cafe charges €3.30 for a water which is a bit of a rip off.

I went with some friends to this garden and the weather was perfect. The garden is so beautifully made with little cute houses inside. I find it so relaxing to walk through all the beautiful trees and bushes.
