- SJH272 contributionsFirst timeLOVED IT!! What a great way to get outside, walk and see some monuments. I spent a good part of my day here. It was just a beautiful day to stroll...a great breeze off the water side and then I found some exercise stations on the road side. Parking was free!!Visited August 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 August 2023
- Chad SIndianapolis, Indiana43 contributionsPlenty of parking, needs more cleaningParked here on the way to taking the ferry for Statue of Liberty. Certain parts were well maintained but other parts looked run down, much like most of Jersey City, IMO. The landscaping could use work but there was plenty of parking and as you get closer to the water, it gets cleaner by the waterfront.Visited July 2023Written 4 August 2023
- ShowMeJohn29 contributionsGreat view of Statue of Liberty from the New Jersey side of things.Great place to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. For some reason, I didn't realize the Statue of Liberty was in between New York city and New Jersey. We were planning on being in the area for another event and looking what we could do in our free time. We discovered the Statue of Liberty was in viewing distance of the New Jersey shore, in fact very close. I expected a sort of roadside type of park and an area with a view of the Statue of Liberty. Was I surprised! New Jersey has a very spacious state park just behind the statue. The park was not just a viewing area. It had a nice visitor center (with restrooms), a picnic/family friendly area complete with grills, and very spacious grounds that included a nice WWII memorial. We did not make it, but there is a walkway to a science center and ferries that run to both Liberty Island and Ellis Island. We did make it to the nature center just down the road from the viewing area. It was also very nice, with both outdoor and indoor displays of the natural side of things related to the area. Kudos to the New Jersey State Park Service for such a nice facility.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 August 2023
- Melanie NAlabama464 contributionsAmazing and special views of the Manhattan SkylineLiberty State Park is located on the shores of the Hudson River allowing for amazing views of the Manhattan skyline. My mother and I needed a break from our road trip and we were pleasantly surprised with the special views of One World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty. Although we were seeing Lady Liberty’s backside it was still an amazing view. Free parking and clean bathrooms are available next to Flag Plaza near the south end of the park. There we found a shaded picnic area with access to Liberty Walk Promenade. The promenade stretches the entire length of the park running along the river’s edge. The gps I used for this area was 200 Morris Pesin Dr Jersey City. You can also take Freedom Way Dr to the north side of the park to access the Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial and Ferry services. Paid and limited free parking available. My only con is that handicap parking should be closer or allow a drop-off area for the physically challenged. It is a great distance to reach the promenade from the parking areas.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023

I walked around this park. There was no admission cost. It was a little tough to navigate my drive within this park, but I found free parking for two (2) hours. In my belief, this park was safe, but I thought that the adjacent areas were more suspect. There were police officers patrolling this park. I liked the views of Jersey City, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Ellis Island, Liberty Island, and the Verrazzano Bridge. There were ferries available which took people to various attractions. This park had many grasslands for people to host events. There was also a 9/11 memorial.

The views and sights you can take in at this park are surreal. Lower Manhattan, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Empty Sky Memorial…so glad we went.

This New Jersey park has a good view of the Statue of Liberty and New York's Manhattan and the Ellis Island museum buildings. The parking lots are free and at least in November there was plenty of space. There is also a Liberation Monument in the park.

A beautiful prelude to something so significant to our cherished country AMERICA. The Empty Sky Memorial was a surprise, so beautiful. I loved the history of the train station.

Statue City Cruises is the only company that ferries you to both islands. The departure from Liberty State Park is easy. Lots of free parking and much less crowded than the New York City side. If you are already in NJ, this is the way to go! Reasonable prices too for the ferry and a very workable schedule to both islands.

Extraordinary experience, especially for our four/year old granddaughter. Every exhibit was child friendly, accessible and many were hands-on!

We r driving a semi truck and trailer.. can we park there and is it open 24 hpurs

It's open dawn till 8pm these days. Not sure about a semi with trailer.
Is there a ferry or boat that will simply go around the Statue of Liberty without stopping at it? If I take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, can I jump on a returning ferry or do I have to stay for a certain amount of time? I don't want to actually see anything except the outside of the Statue of Liberty. So how long is the ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty? How do I get back to NJ shore?

I believe the Statue Cruise boats go the closest to the SOL. But ferries (such as the Staten Island) go by it on their routes.
Can I see the New World Trade Tower from Liberty State Park?
Craig T

Yes you can see it, there is actually a monument close to the waterfront at the park that looks directly at the portion of the Manhattan skyline where the twin towers stood.

Hi. How close is the free parking to the Ferry terminal that goes to Ellis Island?

I think the close parking is like less than $10 per day, Actually I think it was $7 and that was the closest parking which was about a quarter of a mile to the ferry. Parking far out may not be the safest especially after dark. For $7 or so it's worth the money, and everyone parks there.

Hope to see NYC skyline and Statue of Liberty from here in early to mid-May. Wonder about how far away parking is and if it's always available, and if there are restrooms. We don't plan to go on the ferry or drive through NYC, so want to make sure the view is as great as these pictures make it seem. Thanks!

This is the closest view you can get to the statue without going on the water, although the view is from behind her. There is free parking in the smaller lots, and $7 parking in the northern lot near the ferry to Manhattan. Go to the southern end of the park along the water for the closest view of the statue; park across the street from the Interpretive Center.
Comment aller à Liberty state pars de New York?

Bonjour,

Liberty State Park is 5.36 miles long, covers 1,212 acres. You will be more interested in the ,Liberty Walkway, a crescent-shaped promenade, stretches from the railway Terminal along the waterfront south to the Statue of Liberty overlook and to the South Lawn where the flags are, probably a total distance of 1.5 miles,
