This is from a nonSabahan. We moved to KK about 10 months ago. Tagal Tinopikon is a place like no others. Peaceful if I may say and very clean too. You can feel that you are far away from the hustle and bustle even though it is just 20 minutes from KK city. There, you can sample local fruits like Aroi and Tarap (if it's in season). And you can also watch locals aunties performs gong music. The entry fee is RM5. Go...you won't regret it.

A great way to spend the day in nature and also learn about the local culture. Upon arrival, you are immediately immersed into the environment with a short path to travail until a suspension bridge greets you. The bridge is sturdily built so no worries but the "bouncy" experience could be scary for some.
The "native" experience is not a 100% pure as there are some modern amenities and some areas are cemented but it is good enough. Local music on native instruments greet you upon arrival and you're immediately served with drinks. The "rangers" as they're called will then brief you on the itinerary and you then commence. Ask a lot of questions and you'll be rewarded with a wealth of information. The important thing to note is that the reward is in the journey and not the destination, so even along the short trek there is plenty to see and do. What looks like just another tree is instead a special fruit tree which blooms only once every 4 years!
I don't want to spoil the experience by revealing all the details here but suffice to say, this is a great experience especially if you wish to know more about the local culture and also like getting back to nature.

Tagal Tinopikon Park is a perfect outing place for family and friends. It only takes about 35 minutes to get there from Kota Kinabalu town, depending on the traffic. The road condition is good for even smaller cars like Myvi. Carpool is recommended as the parking area is limited. The parking area is located on the right side of the road if you are driving from Kota Kinabalu. Go down a set of stairs, cross a bridge, and you will arrive at the destination. You can spend your day playing at the riverside, feeding fish, picnicking, and hiking.
You can literally spend the whole day at Tagal Tinopikon Park or even stay overnight! They have a shelter that can accommodate up to 20 people with just RM10 per person, which includes a mattress and a pillow. They also have an outdoor kitchen that is equipped with cooking tools and utensils. You only need to bring your own food and pay for RM30 for the rental. For booking and inquiries, feel free to Whatsapp 0195054514 (Florina).

After a walk down concrete steps you come across a suspension bridge across the river. It is safe and not scarey - just take your time and you will enjoy. Once over this you will be welcomed by local musicians - gongs! As I have visited many Asian places, this was pretty ordinary. Now the trek/bushwalking. It is not a long trek to the very small waterfall. Mainly climbing up and down steps, so if you are not fit or of bad health, I would not suggest because it is also very humid. Once you return to entrance, you can try local kadazan dusan food which is cooked over coals. Don't expect too much and you may enjoy. Take tissues with you for toilet and it is an Asian stand up style one. We also had a cultural dance but disappointed as just a local lady in her jeans and t shirt doing a couple of steps, so don't expect too much. Overall, I probably would not do this visit again and probably would suggest another activity.

What I love about this place is the beautiful river view, the hanging bridge, quiet and my favourite part is you can actually request for them to cook instant noodles and send it to your place. Imagine eating hot, soupy maggi kari under the gazebo facing the river under the rain. When going in the river, just beware of your surroundings since you're basically in the middle of the woods. You'll never know what's lurking under the water.

The entrance for adult is RM5 and it was free for my child. The river is clean and a peaceful place to get close to nature. There are fishes that will swim around you and visitors can feed the fish by buying fish feed at RM2 per pack. The place is good for picnic. They have batik drawing activity and you can hike up to the waterfall nearby.

I my self growing up in the Land below the wind never had any experience on how to milk rubber from the tree. There is a few activity that they have arrange for us like fish spa, dance performance, water rafting , batik painting and fruit harvesting. They also prepare some lunch using the old alternative which they still using wood as a fire. This is quite an interesting experience to both of my children.

how far of a walk from the entrance (flight of stairs down) to the river, the suspension bridge? and is it suitable and safe walk for elderly people?
Written 4 January 2020
I don't really recommend this place for the elderly because the steps are quite steep but I do see families with their elders. Going down is one thing but going back up is another.

Hi, can we gdo in without tour guides if just to experience the river/fish feedibg without going for waterfall trekking / lunch/ etc.
Thanks

yes! you can absolutely go to Tagal Tinopikon without a guide. the only thing you need is a vehicle (car, bike, grab), bathing suite and a food basket. Waze will take you right at the signboard of Tagak Tinopikon. It's a bit tricky because in the middle of nowhere and the only guide is the signboard. just park your car there and take a flight of stairs down. The entrance fee is RM5 for adults and RM2 for children. If you go at the right time, you can have a taste of local fruits like tarap and aroi.
