What a great place for kids of all ages! Lots of seating in shade for parents, picnic tables under tall trees nearby, lots of different parts to climb on, and to top it off, 3 misters came on at the right time to cool off the kids. In the evening, most will be in the shade cast by the tall trees on the hill. My kids could have been there for hours. For the bigger kids, this would be an epic place for hide and seek.

Hyland Lake Park Reserve is a really fun place to spend the day. It has party and family gathering areas if you're planning a family/friends get together. You can rent boats/canoes, and other equipment to enhance your time there. Check their website first to see availability and prices. The Reserve has bike and walking paths, and if you cross country ski, they accommodate that in the winter. The best thing though, is their play area. "Kids" of all ages will find something to do, climb, swing, slide, you choose.

One if the nicest parks around with something for everyone. It is very well kept with plenty of picnic tables and shelters. I would check their website to get you a list of everything you can do and there is a ton. Chutes and ladders for the young kids, it will keep them busy for hours.

We go to Hyland on a regular basis. The play area is huge. It has tables and sitting areas for watching your kids was they climb run and slide. At the lake they have canoe, paddle boats and kayak rentals. There isn't a swimming beach. The park also has awesome trails for biking, walking, rollerblading etc.

Way too over-policed! There are too many other places to go and have fun and relax than this place. However, if you liked being yelled at by a 17-year-old with a megaphone and a power trip, then this is the place for you. My husband and I and our 5 year old decided to give this beach a try. We’re laid back middle-aged folks. We got yelled at not once but twice. The first time was because my husband had our daughter on his shoulders. Ok, eye roll, but I get it, you think the teenagers at the beach will see this middle-aged man and his little kid and think yes! Chicken fight. Ok. But, then the same lifeguard yelled at us because we dared to take our daughter, who was in a lifejacket, for a swim out into the deep end and back—we were still in the swimming area—but she yelled “no lifejackets in the deep area!”?! The absurdity, what kind of SENSE does that make, so basically, we could have taken her out of her life jacket and had her grab onto our backs and went swimming with her in the deep water but the life jacket was the problem?! Apparently common sense has completely been thrown out the window. The beach is small and there were 4 or 5 lifeguards. We are Minnesotans, we know our water here. Use a little discretion, I think middle-aged folks know how to take care of their kids. Keep your eye on the young ones and the teenagers, no rough-housing, the basics. One rule they don't have is that they allow squirt guns and shooters and I got nailed twice—once right up the old ear canal and one square in the face because I crossed in the middle of the gun fight. Do I think they should be banned? No. Do I think they’re irritating? Yes, but let the kids have some fun. As long as kids are behaving themselves and not hurting themselves, others, or wrecking stuff, then leave them alone to enjoy their day. On a side note, when we first arrived some kids were playing around with a soccer ball on a small patch of grass near the beach and the ball landed in my lap, why was no one policing these kids to go behind the building if they wanted to play soccer? Why did they have to play where all the people were sitting and laying out? They could have easily nailed someone in the head. Also, the most important—I read the sign with all the rules when I arrived at the beach (but apparently there are another 20 pages of additional more important rules somewhere else--like no life jackets in the deep end) and all life jackets are supposed to be US Coast Guard approved, yet NONE of them were. I know this because I have the same life jacket that all the kids were wearing and a Coast Guard approved jacket too, and I know the ones the kids were wearing weren’t approved—I also think this is a ridiculous rule, anything that is going to keep a little kid afloat should be okay to use; however, I would think that the safety of the gear would be more important than yelling at two middle-aged folks with ONE kid trying to have some SAFE fun. I’m so glad I didn’t waste my money on a season pass. There are way too many places to play in the water than this funny farm.

I stay in Edina. It was great to discover this wonderful lake and the nice trail good for few hours of hike. Got a chance to see the colors of autumn and their quiet reflection in the tranquil lake. Small park for the children right beside the parking lot makes it even more attractive for families with little ones.

I live 2 minutes from Hyland. That’s actually timed recently. (Accuracy in journalism). The wildlife that calls Hyland its home will often visit me in my backyard. Backyard in this case is a double entendres! Living so close affords me access to what I like to think of as an extension of my backyard. I’ve spent all four seasons, in the Reserve photographing the wildlife and the prairie, complete with lakes and ponds. I’ve shot video of the Canada Geese that nest there, the beautiful sunsets that light up the prairie grasses with a golden glow.

If you’re looking for a beautiful place to appreciate the bounty that Mother Nature has given us...don’t be shy...take a hike!

My kids ages 5-11 loved this free play area. I also went down some of the slides. Shaded area with tables.

This is the best and biggest outdoor park I know of in the Metro Area. It is pretty clean and there are sitting areas with huge umbrellas for shade. They have two bathrooms and they sell food and water. They have mist coming out of pipes so you can cool off as well. There's usually lots of kids to play with.

We have been going here for years. The kids play area is excellent! Wonderful elevated mazes with curly slides and lots of climbing. They also have run through sprinkler arches that little kids really love...especially on a hot day. There are many picnic tables with grills. A walk around the lake is always great....just watch out for geese parents in the spring! They also have paddle boat for rent and you can fish off thier dock. Lots of parking. In the winter there are cross-country skiing trails that are lit for when it gets dark early around here.
