Overview
More
Windmill Island Gardens is home to de Zwaan windmill, the last mill allowed to be transported from the Netherlands. de Zwaan still functions by grinding locally-grown grain into flour that is sold to visitors and local businesses. A highlight of visiting is a tour of this historic working windmill. Visitors can enjoy music from our antique Dutch street organ given to the City of Holland by the City of Amsterdam after World War II. Children can also ride on our antique carousel from the Netherlands. There are several other replica Dutch buildings and shops. The Island is home to beautiful gardens which feature tulips in the spring followed by beautiful annuals and perennials throughout the summer. Please note that the Island is open seasonally, April 14 - October 7, 2018. Last tickets sold at 5 pm.

Been wanting to come here since May, I should have! Tulips were already gone. Nevertheless, the windmill is the most interesting point of interest. I didnt know that there is a free tour, we did and learned a lot of things on the history of...More

I went for the Tulip festival (in 2017, not 2018) and was rather disappointed. I enjoyed walking around downtown more than the Windmill and tulip gardens. I went for the 2nd weekend of the Tulip festival and the flowers were all wilted and dead. That's...More

Really enjoyed our walk and seeing everything. Great place to get a shot of a windmill. The weather wasn't great but we really enjoyed our visit.

Came here with friends to see the windmill and to take some good pictures. We came when the tulips festival was over. It would have been a better visit if the tulips were in bloom. Although I was not disappointed. There was an entrance fee...More

There wasn't much to see. The organ was probably the best thing there to see. If you like climbing stairs, the windmill may be neat to see.

Everything changes and not always for the better. We hadn't been here for about 30 years. Use to come here all the time when my daughter was young and looked forward to seeing the dancers at the Windmill. They don't have dancers and the guide...More

Don't bother unless you can get here when the tulips are blooming - early May I think. The windmill is interesting if you are into the workings of a windmill.

The windmill was extremely interesting, but not much else there to keep your interest. However, well worth an hour to see the windmill.

I don't remember seeing anything on the sign that says that and there is nothing on the website. I'd give them a call since you are local.

Get there early, Holland City did add a parking structure, not that far away. (There is also some parking on the grounds)

Hi Joyce - the majority of our tulips are in bloom right now. Cold temps help the blooms stay longer so we're happy about the cooler weather. On the 10th we should still have many tulips in bloom. Keep an eye on our website... More
