Lake Robbins is one of the last standing Ballrooms anywhere. The dance floor is beautiful ... you won’t find any better. The floor is most important to dancers so they are able to foxtrot, swing, waltz and tango without twisting an ankle on a sticky floor. What’s left of the Big Band orchestras come every Sunday from everywhere in the Midwest. It is decorated for the Holidays. We dress up when we dance there but any attire is welcomed. The owner also cooks , waits tables and works hard to keep the doors open. $11.00 -$12.00 admission means everyone can enjoy a night out. Even if you don’t know how to dance... Lake Robbins will give you a night to remember

I went recently to celebrate a cousin's birthday and felt enchanted by the experience, from the ballroom's setting in the midst of rural Iowa's cornfields to the music and the dancers on its original wood floor. The food is delicious, generously portioned and inexpensive, the bands' musicians are excellent, and everyone clearly has a great time. This cultural relic has hosted many celebrated musicians over its decades and deserves support from not just the local community but far beyond. The variety of music is impressive - from Lawrence Welk style through jazz, rock oldies and country - and they even offer dance lessons! We all should help keep this cultural treasure alive and thriving; places like Lake Robbins are few and far between.

My husband and I love to come out for the ballroom and swing dances. We have met many new friends and enjoy time with them when we are there.

The food and drinks are very reasonable and good. Nothing fancy about it. Just good home cooking. The wait time for food is longer than most... but that just gives you more time to dance before it comes. If you get there early and get your order in then it's not too bad. We love the veggie tray... and often have burgers or chicken or tenderloins. We go through 2 pitchers of water each night... What a fun place for the whole family.

They are open to the public most weekends, the days and times vary slightly with the season and the band that's playing. The lessons on Sunday afternoons are a great buy also. You don't have to have a partner to come and enjoy the music and dance the night away.

Is it perfect, no. But it is a 1930s ballroom where you get to kind of step back in time. If you want glamour, and great food, this place maybe isn't for you. But if you love to dance, it has a huge dance floor where even if you aren't the best dancer you will find yourself some room on the floor. I have gone several times and have enjoyed my self each time. Some times it takes you while to get your drinks, so if you just want to drink maybe go elseware, although their prices for drinks are very reasonable. But this place has the biggest and best dance floor in the area, so it's worth checking out.

We went here to hear a band play. My husband and I had never been here before even though we live close. I don't mind the gravel roads since they are everywhere out in the country. The interior leaves a lot to be desired. Old and needs some upkeep. We had a table reserved for us since we knew someone in the band. We had a hard time getting someone to tell us where the table. That kind of set the stage for the evening. Our table was so close to the other two tables beside it that we had to actually take all the chairs from one side out to be able to get in. With that being said we couldn't move the chairs once we finally got seated. The stage was a little behind us so we had cramped necks the whole evening. The wait staff had a table out in the open in front of us that was not crowded at all. I should have been on the wait staff. I might have saved my neck. The stage itself is surrounded by a silver curtain which covered everything - backdrop and ceiling. It would have been great to have seen the band on a larger stage. The tables could have been arranged differently and all would have been happy (maybe). I doubt if we will attend anything else there if we can help it.

Anything but a good experience. Went to this establishment as the band we enjoyed had been booked there. It's out in the middle of no where on gravel roads. Smells. Plus the staff were not helpful or courteous. You know the kind the could really care less if you were there or not? Yeah that's what I got from them. :(

Had to cut the night short...very disappointed. Understaffed , unproffessional, low budget, and unwelcoming. Smell. Gravel. Too bad because the band was okay. Won't be back. What a wasted drive and cover. :(

I danced my butt off and realized what a GEM The Lake Robbins Ballroom is! Located on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere between Perry & Woodward, the crowd was HUGE! I bet there were 400 people there ranging in age from 18-85, but heavy on the young! I was old there! And every ability dancer, too. SO MUCH FUN. The drinks were really cheap, there's food and the dance floor was insanely busy. Even for non-dancers, this place was great. I'm looking forward to going back for their dance workshops. WAY fun!

If you love to dance, this is the place to go for a wonderful evening! A very beautiful, large, wooden dance floor graces this historic ballroom, where young and old alike swing, dip and twirl the night away. There is a kitchen with waitstaff to serve meals according to the occasion. My husband and I have been here many times, before and after we were married there, right underneath the multifaceted disco ball suspended from the ceiling above the middle of the dance floor. They have live bands almost every weekend, so it's a good idea to check their schedule and see the style of music that will play when you want to go. The fee varies also, depending on who it is. The decor is in sync with the history of the establishment, which must be almost 100 years old, yet Lake Robbins offers a variety of music styles on different nights, from big bands to rock & roll and country. Woodward is not far from Perry, Iowa, where staying overnight at the Hotel Pattee will perfect the activities on your itinerary.
