There's something so Midwestern so much like the Great plains anf the upper Midwest as hockey in the winter. the scene I was part of his probably taking place in many smaller communities throughout our area It's wholesome good phone with enough action to keep everybody occupied. This is a great family activity and is an opportunity for the young people who are playing to possibly get a college scholarship in hockey somewhere. The quality of the hockey is good and it's just a fun thing to do. I went with a large group of friends and we all had a great time. They've come a long way and have lots of great craft beers and actually some good mixed drinks and whiskeys as well as a barbecue joint and other typical food that you would find at a stadium. It's easy in easy out and really just good fun. I would bring a pad to sit on if you have one of those stadium pads. And dress warm you are in an ice rink.

Came to Des Moines from Long Island New York to watch some Buccanneers Hockey. The arena is smaller and older than many in the USHL, I guess it's what hockey people would fondly call an old barn, but that didn't stop the fans from being the loudest and most engaged fans. Apparently the new owners have put a substantial amount of money into upgrading the rink - new paint everywhere, new boards, new glass, new safety netting. It was an excellent hockey experience plus the team won 5-2 which of course is always good.

My wife & I attended a very entertaining USHL junior hockey game @ Buccaneer Arena on a Friday night in March. Parking on-site was affordable ($5), or there are options across the road (just check for posted parking restrictions). Arena entry is via the lobby at the southeast corner, with access to the ice-level concourse & seating areas down a flight of stairs from there. Staff & home fans were all friendly and very supportive of their team. They have a small-ish team store on the west side of the arena (at ice level behind the stands) which is well stocked. Despite the age of the facility (opened in 1961), I found it to have an "old barn" feel that is attractive to ardent hockey fans. The lighting in the rink space & on the concourses is spotty but adequate. The in-game audio volume is typically blaring for a hockey arena, but lowered enough between periods to allow conversation. The only significant negatives that you need to be prepared for are the temperature in the seating areas (one of the coldest arenas my wife & I have visited) and the lack of comfort on the bench seats in the main seating tier (bring a seat cushion or padded blanket). But overall, Buccaneer Arena is a good venue to watch & enjoy a hockey game.

These young players are an awful lot of fun to watch! Affordable night out for the family. We have been to many, many games here. It’s exciting to see these kids play and then later go on to college and pro teams.

Right up front, the facilities here are not what you come for; but at the same time, kind of are. If you're expecting lavish accommodations in a nice, new, clean arena, this isn't for you. This is the Mad House on Hickman and in all of its glory. It's old, dingy, and basic. You couple that with a weekend crowd for a Buc's home game and you have a fun night the whole family can enjoy. It's loud and crazy - it's hockey! Your option in town is the Wild and they play in the comfy confines of Wells Fargo Arena. It's a great venue for a game but much, much different. This is the kind of place you either love or hate and I love it. We make it to games as often as we can.
