The monument offers a panoramic view of Omaha, the Missouri River, Eppley Airfield and surrounding area. Markers and plaques tell the significance of the site to the Lewis & Clark Expedition as well as the source of the name for Council Bluffs, IA. I would...More

This is located in a residential area off the beaten path. It has a little park and I am sure the local residents know about it. But if you didn't know it was there you would never find it. The best thing about it is...More

High on the bluffs north of Council Bluffs, you have good parking and disability-friendly area to learn about the story of Lewis and Clark. Plan on 20-30 minutes there unless you want to hike.

Atop the impressive Loess Hills by Council Bluffs with a sweeping view of Omaha, the airport, the Missouri river and I 29, this site commemorates the journey by Lewis and Clark through the area. The actual meeting with the Otoes 'memorialized' did not actually take...More

I rode my bike up here and it was worth the climb. The placards described the importance of Council Bluffs in history and the view was quite nice. There was a family enjoying a picnic lunch when I visited. The park was clean and quiet....More

We went with family to the Monument in the evening after our reunion. It was beautiful. They were able to point out landmarks in Omaha and Council Bluffs to us. Nice place to relax.

Your drive up to the monument may reveal the flora and fauna. In the Spring and late Fall, you will see turkeys and toms (with tails fanned out in full regalia for their flock), walking through the front yards of the local residents. Depending on...More

People do get married here. I don't believe that there is room for a reception. The area is fairly small.
