Neighbourhood: Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.

The indoor mall of Block 37 on State Street is a multi-story mall of contemporary design, with various shops, access to which is provided by escalators and glass elevators. There's a dine-in movie theater on the upper floor of the mall (Level 4), and also several restaurants -- for casual dining, mainly.

As a consequence of the pandemic, a very popular restaurant Latinicity is closed now (not sure, temporarily or for good), several stores are gone too, but some new ones are either open already, or they've been announced to open in the near future. The mall has a set of useful info-boards on each floor, plus many rest areas with chairs and tables, that are now placed even more distantly, than before. A very large and spacious atrium, now decorated for winter holidays, also adds volume and appeal to the comfort of the mall.

In the shops that I visited, the attendants were wearing masks, and public places on different floors were regularly cleaned.

Shops of Block 37 are located in the center of Theatre District of the Chicago Loop, and they attract visitors pretty much any time of the day, since it is a very busy part of town.

Great place for shopping when you need to be indoors and away from the elements of the weather. There is also a dining theater and a very large food area (Latinicity) -- as always, expect to pay city prices.

One of the city’s newer shopping malls, and an essential indoor connection point between the Red and Blue subway lines in the heart of the Loop. Transfers unfortunately aren’t free between the two lines, since you actually have to exit one station and pass through the lower level of the mall to get to the other station. It’s a modern place with plenty of stores and dining options, and even an AMC movie theater. I would say it has the crisp appearance of a high-end shopping mall without necessarily the stores and prices that you usually find in that sort of mall. Any place like this is always great to visit on rainy days, but why not hop off the subway when you’re exploring the city and check out what the mall has to offer?

Nice shopping center in the Chicago Loop area. Clothing stores (like Anthropologie), Sephora, food places and much more.

For those staying in The Loop that is a good option for eating, they have fast food and a few restaturants. It is not a big mall but the stores are ok, the most wanted brands take place here. Good experience.

This mall is home to high end shops and some popular shops. It is not a huge mall but okay. It was nicely decorated for the holidays.

I am not a fond of shopping malls, but this big mall has its own advantage which is very good food options (Pret A Manger and Latinacity) inside it

It will take more time, of course, but I suspect that former Mayor Richard M. Daley's vision for Block 37 was to lure shoppers and tourists back to State Street, that Great Street of the past, and away from Water Tower Place and the Magnificent Mile. Block 37 is bounded by West Randolph, North State, West Washington and North Dearborn. The 54-story building includes 17 floors for the CBS Broadcast Center, three for a mall for shopping, dining and movie-going and 34 for residential apartments. It is a great location, in the heart of the Loop, and there are indications that the area is being revitalized. In 1989, the previous buildings on the block were demolished to make way for Mayor Daley's redevelopment plan. But the initial plan fell through. So did subsequent plans, leaving the block vacant for nearly a generation. Finally, in recent years, Block 37, or 108 North State Street, or Block Thirty-Seven, is attracting businesses and visitors. Open from 10 to 8 Monday through Saturday and from 11 to 6 on Sunday, Block 37 features such businesses as Banana Republic, Zara, Disney, Francesca's, Akira, Anthropologie, Made in Chicago, Amazon Lockers, Sephora, Local Charm and Sunglass Hut and such restaurants as Gayle's, The Dearborn, Starbucks, Magnolia Bakery, MacGuffins Bar & Grill, Godiva Chocolatier and Latinicity Food Hall and Lounge. In addition, AMC Theatres has installed an 11-screen, dine-in movie theatre. Remember when State Street was Chicago's shopping mecca, in the 1950s and 1960s and 1970s, before anyone heard of the Magnificent Mile? It could happen again. Block 37 is leading the way.

Took in a noon movie and there were only a handful of people in the theater. I truly enjoyed the space around us. It's like sitting in a first class seat with meal service to watch a movie. The food was 3 stars, which was about average, but I wasn't expecting a gourmet experience. Service was pretty fast considering this is not your average dining room. Prices for the movies were still high. I paid $32 for 2 tickets for a noon showing. Food for 2 without any alcoholic drinks was about $36 for 2 of us, which seems to be about average for Chicago.
