My husband and I did the 5K fun run this past Sunday with Evan as our guide. We loved it! We received it as a wedding gift (a creative fun gift idea for runners or anyone with some enjoyment of jogging/running and history/landmarks). Highly recommend! And you leave with lots of memorable photos taken by your guide!

I was in town on business in January and wanted a route relatively free from wintry elements so I thought this would be a good way to have a local craft a route that would be scenic and safe. Marlin was not only a knowledgeable guide and had many interesting stories and facts, but ran the course the day before to make sure it wasn't too icy. I was a little time-bound and he made sure we ended on time. This running tour was the perfect blend of running talk, city/scenery facts and beautiful views. I've been on a number of running tours in several cities, and he had an added element I've not yet seen- he offers tickets to the Willis Tower or Art Institute in addition to the run. It was a very nice touch especially if you are in town for fun. If you're in Chicago I'd highly recommend a running tour with Marlin- and even if it's in wintry months, don't be intimidated. The route was very pretty in its winter glow.

Thank you for your kind review. So far for this winter season you ran the coldest tour. It was 15f when we started. You demonstrated that a running tour on a cold winter day is very doable, scenic, and fun.
Thank you for spending this part of your Chicago visit with me.
And best of luck on your upcoming marathon.

I was planning a girls trip to Chicago and this was going to be the first time for all of us to visit the city. While planning our itinerary it literally took me months to convince them to sign up for a running tour. "Its a tour! We'll stop a lot! I'll ask him to run slow!" Finally I convinced them to do it, and we ended up planning it for our last day of the trip. The few days before I could see the apprehension in their faces (the weather was not looking favorable) but luckily the North Face store was just a block up from our hotel and I assured them that running in slightly cooler temps was 1000 times better then running in heat and humidity (haha!) And then the day arrived. Marlin met us at our hotel and then we were off and running. In my opinion it was perfect running weather. Overcast, with a slight drizzle at times. Even though we had already done some sightseeing before our tour Marlin took us to places we had not explored yet with great explanations of what we were seeing. I loved the fun pictures he took of us running (and with two of the girls being photographers, Marlins photos are still my favorite). Finally we ended at the Art Institute which I had actually not planned on and this ended up being a wonderful surprise and end to our run. Overall 10 stars and my reluctant colleagues agreed with me afterwards they had a great time and really enjoyed it also (despite our total distance being 7 instead of 5 miles because of the extra travel time from the hotel, but they're only slightly annoyed by that hehe).

I am so grateful for this review. You took the time to provide the best experience for your friends even with their apprehensions. I'm pleased all turned out well and they enjoyed the experience you set up. Thanks for the 10 stars and your kind words on the photos. You may forget many of the stories I tell, but those photos are forever.
You know who to check in with the next time you visit Chicago.

We meet Marlin on the train while planning our itinerary for the day. He happened to have availability and gave us a wonderful tour of The Art Institute. He is an awesome storyteller and taught us so much in a short amount of time. Our group of four, aged 13 to 64, were all captivated by his tour.
He’s in the business of making friends and we all felt like we made a friend. Great tour, can’t wait for our next tour with Marlin.

It's not every day I sit behind folks, on the train, who are planning a visit to the city. I just could not help myself offering uninvited suggestions. Now I'm glad I did. We ended up having a fun experience at the Art Institute and I made new friends and had fun.
Thank you for your review. I am grateful.

I booked a day tour with Marlin to House on the Rock and Taliesin, with other Lloyd Wright sites on the way. Totally fantastic. He tailored it to what I wanted, was great company and organised it impeccably. As a docent at Oak Park studio he is very knowledgeable about Lloyd Wright too. He says his aim is to ensure people have fun and make memories, and he succeeded brilliantly. Book him well in advance as he is in demand. I'm really grateful to him for a truly great day trip.

Carol, we had a great time and terrific conversation during our several hours of travel to and from Taliesin. Thank you so much for being my very first customer to take this trip. Even more so, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on tripadvisor.

My fiance and I took a running tour with Marlin several years ago and I've had it on my to do list to write a review since then. Although three years has passed since our tour, I still remember how special the day was. Marlin took pictures of us along the way which turned out to be our favorite pictures in Chicago. The tour was fantastic and I couldn't think of a better way to wake up in an amazing city. Marlin and this tour are the BEST!!

What a great experience running through Chicago, seeing and hearing about famous people and sights, and having Wrigley Field as the finish line! Marlin made every step of the way interesting and enjoyable. Loved running through open spaces such as Lincoln Park Zoo and Oz Park as well as city streets and cut throughs. Can’t wait to come back and do another running tour with Marlin!

Thanks so much for your "trippinbillies" review. You proved a running tour in Chicago can be accomplished right after a snow storm in the cold of January. In spite of the snow, cold, slush puddles, and wind, we still had a good time. Thanks for braving the elements.
I look forward to running with you again during a future visit.

This tour was the highlight of our trip! Marlin is super funny, a great story teller, easy to talk to and run with and very generous with his time and recommendations. It is obvious by the time and detail Marlin puts into his tours that he is passionate about the history of Chicago and makes learning about the city's past both interesting and fun. Next time we're in Chicago, we will definitely take another of his tours and we're telling all of our travelling friends to do the same.

Thank you for your terrific review Christy. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your experience, had fun, and tolerated the eye rolling jokes. I appreciate you sharing with your friends and am very much looking forward to your future visit to show you more, less tragic, events and places in Chicago.

Fantastic running tour through Chicago. This is an 8 mile run through Chicago - great experience and got to see areas of Chicago tourists don't typically visit. Marlin was fantastic is a wealth of knowledge about everything Chicago. Too many highlights to mention them all - museum of science and industry, Rockefeller Chapel - going up the tower, Japanese gardens, site of the world trade fair. Running pace not difficult and suited to your pace. Highly recommend !!

Thank you for your kind review Angela. You had the perfect circumstance that allowed me to add extras that are not always options on the Devil in the White City tour. When participants have extra time I enjoy including stops like the Museum of Science and Industry and Rockefeller Chapel. It was a lot of fun.
Thanks so much.

I had such a great time doing the "Navy Pier and River Tour" with Marlin. My only regret was that I didn't have more time to do more tours with him. He was so pleasant and SO knowledgeable about what was interesting and cool and fun about Chicago. He brings the city and its history to life in memorable ways... and you get a decent run in, too! I cannot recommend Marlin and his tour highly enough... THIS experience is what you hope for when you come to a new city... and Marlin delivers it perfectly... JUST DO IT!

Hi Daljit,
I'm happy you had already discovered how to sign up. Your request popped into my email while you and I were running this morning. It appears that it took about 15 hours from the time you posting your inquire for it to get to me.
Tripadvisor recently dropped business website links from listings, making it more difficult for you, the customer, to sign up.
Anyone else reading this can sign up with Chicago Running Tours at our site, which, I have just discovered I can not list here. Go figure.
